Austrian based studio Nordic Games aka THQ NORDIC have teamed up with developer Weappy Studio to create This is the police, which just so happens to be Weappy Studio's first ever game to develop. This is the Police was released first on Windows in August 2016, now finally on Xbox One and PS4 and it isn't your average strategy game, this one as the title suggests, is all about the police.

This is the Police is a single player experience in the form of strategy through the eyes of a police chief named Jack Boyd. He's a straight forward talking cop who says it as he sees it. He's been on the force for a good stint. Now the mayor wants him to retire, but it's not by his own choice. So you can already guess that this cop game has a form of corruption.

This is the Police takes place in a fictional city called Freeburg in the late 1980s. It’s the last six months of Jack Boyds career that we play. He'll need to earn $500,000 before his days are up and how he does is up to you, through either simply doing your job or turning an eye to crimes by the mafia, and so on. It's not all about the mafia, there are crimes that aren't connected to the mafia, and it's these crimes where you'll also need a good strategy. You'll need to decide how many officers you want to send out to calls, send too many and when you run out of officers to see to crimes, you'll get screwed. Another aspect of being a cop in this is doing investigations. You'll need to reconstruct events leading up to the crime so you can catch your criminal.

Really not a lot going on with gameplay. Its mostly via text and images, which is in real time. The map is set out in a isometric style.

Mediocre, that's the first thing that comes to mind on a graphical standpoint, though voices are ripped straight from the 80s throwing off a huge cop vibe that we can easily understand. Just think Law & Order! (The television show)

I really thought this game could go either way, good or bad. And it is a bit mixed overall. As I enjoyed parts and not so much others, I found certain sections to be quite boring while others things such as investigating to be kind of cool. This certainly isn't a game for everyone though, being the fact it received an R rating in Australia for sexual content, and it does have coarse language too. Most games have us being the bad guy, the last proper cop game I can think of was Rockstar's LA Noire, so if you are up for something new and different you'll want to check this game out!
