Hell’s Kitchen is one of my favorite TV series, and maybe it’s because of my love for cooking that makes it so entertaining for me. And that love also extends to the games I play — Overcooked 2, Restaurant Simulator, and many more. Recently, while I was playing Roblox, I saw this new game called Hell’s Kitchen. I got excited and tried it right away, and here I am, writing this review.
If you’re not familiar with the show, you can watch it on several streaming services, mainly Netflix as that’s where I watched it. Let’s start!
How Does Roblox’s Hell’s Kitchen Game Work?
There are a lot of things I liked about the game. I didn’t put my hopes up at first because I’ve tried a lot of branded games on Roblox that didn’t meet my expectations. However, this game is on a different level and I really enjoyed playing it.
When you join the game, you will spawn at the game’s lobby where you need to go to a specific area to play the game. Once you go there, you need to wait a few seconds to be teleported to a server where you and others will play as Hell’s Kitchen chefs. See that featured photo up there? That’s a part of the lobby. Cool, isn’t it?
Anyway, you will be divided into two teams — the Red Team and the Blue Team. The game has two modes: pre-service and dinner service. It’s literally the same as what you see on FOX channel (where Hell’s Kitchen can be watched) on DISH Network honestly.
During the pre-service, each chef only needs to cook one dish that’s automatically chosen by the system. After that, everyone is graded based on the quality of their dish. The team with the lowest average will lose, and they will have to choose someone to eliminate from the two lowest scorers.
For the dinner service, everyone gets to cook as many foods as they can within a limited time. It’s still a team battle, so everyone must cook fast but with quality to beat the other team. Same thing with pre-service, the lowest scoring team will have to eliminate one of their lowest scorers. This is the cycle of the game — pre-service → dinner service then it continues until the last round. In the latter part of the game, if the team only has 2 remaining players, the chef with the lowest score will be eliminated automatically.
What I Liked About the Game
The game is realistic, and it did not disappoint me with the gameplay, the graphics, and the overall experience. During the first part of the actual game, there are lots of scenes mimicked from the show, and they did great with that. The voiceover is even Chef Gordon Ramsay himself, so that detail is chef’s kiss for me.
The kitchen was also designed very well. It’s simple, not crowded, and not buggy. It will take you some time to reach one station to another, which I assume is part of the game as every second counts here. I think the dishes I’ve cooked during dinner service were 4 or 5, and the last dish was a buzzer-beater. This is an online game, so having a fast internet connection like fiber internet will come in handy to avoid delays.
You can also purchase power-ups to sabotage the other team or make the game a bit easier for yourself. They come at a price, so you will need to earn coins first before you can use them. Just a tip though, not all players appreciate this feature so use it at your own risk. Personally, I only use it when someone uses it on me first — revenge is definitely sweeter!
The last bit I loved about the game is the kid-friendly insults the developers included. I mean, Chef Gordon isn’t Chef Gordon if it isn’t for his meme-worthy insults. So if you ever see this game played by your kid, don’t worry!
What Improvements I Want to See in the Future Updates
The game is too repetitive, so replayability is an issue. Once you get a hold of the game, it’ll get a bit boring after several games because there’s no challenge anymore. I would want to see a variety of cuisines, for sure, like Mexican Night, Birthday Service, and other special events like what happens on the show itself.
Punishments should also be a thing, not just elimination after elimination. The controls when chopping stuff suck, so that must be improved as well. I also want to see chefs wearing black jackets once they reach the latter part of the game. And probably the finale dinner service where it’s more grand than the typical dinner service.
The last one I’d like to see, well, it’s more of a good-feel feature but I’ll say it anyway. I want to see the burning portraits of the eliminated chefs. It’s not 100% Hell’s Kitchen without it. But since the game is new, I have high hopes for this game. I just hope they constantly develop and update the game so we can enjoy it better. Overall, it’s a 7/10 for me. I loved it, but improvements must be made so we can enjoy it longer!
