Nanoleaf Pegboard Desk Dock (Hardware) – Review

Nanoleaf is innovation. There are no ifs or buts about it. It seems like every time they send a new product, it ceases to amaze me the quality of the build and ingenuity that goes into them.

It piqued my interest then, when this time they sent the Nanoleaf ‘Pegboard Deck Dock’.  Does my desk need some organisation? Only time will tell.

Standing about 28cms, and weighing about 620 grams, this stylish and frankly oddly cool-looking metal frame is solid but not too overbearing in taking up space. Flat on one side and grated on the other, you have the option to use 4 hooks that snap effortlessly into the grates.

The base is a curved-edge rectangle and sturdy, meaning it isn’t going to slip and slide around your desktop. In the middle of the base is a button where you can cycle through solid colours and a few motion scenes that come as standard presets to the device.

Connecting to your PC via a 2m USB-C power cable, the Nanoleaf Pegboard Desk Dock is quoted as having 3-in-1 usage. How, you might ask? Well, firstly and most obviously, it is a typical stand; a place to store your headset, controller, even a handheld device if you wanted, with its nifty removable hanging hook pegs.

It is backlit by beautifully soft RGB lighting and a stylish grating to diffuse to glow too. You can even hang your headset over the top without the hooks. It is an impressive display, I must admit.

Secondly, this stand is also a charging and extra plug-in dock. If you take a thorough look at the base, you will find on the right side a USB slot and on the right a USB-C slot. On the backside, you will find another 2 USB-C slots, 1 being a power delivery point, making a accumulative of 4 charging slots altogether. Perfect for tidying up someone like me who has cables leading everywhere across her desk.

Lastly, and geniusly, might I add, you can use this actual stand as a Keylight. Yes, turn it around with its 180-degree plug ability, and you have a bright light that can light you straight on.

If you turn it back around, you also have a nice backlight for any wall space. These can be changed to any colour your heart desires and are a perfect addition for a streamer, as it is so easy to turn around.

As with most Nanoleaf products, there is full customisation. Working with the Nanoleaf desktop app, you can customise colours, motions and even set capabilities to react to music. It also has screen mirroring capabilities. This means the colours can match what is currently being shown on your screen.

This feature definitely still blows me away, as it also sets the mood by matching what you are watching. Unfortunately, though, this device is not compatible with my personal preference, the Nanoleaf mobile app.

The Nanoleaf Pegboard Desk Dock is actually geniusly designed for gamers and streamers alike. With a 3 in 1 design, not only do you get a stand, but with the Nanolear Desktop App, you get a customisable keylight and power station. If you want to upgrade your desktop organisation this year, this is definitely a must-have piece of gear.
