Back in June this year, I was invited to Samsung’s Sydney office for a hands-on look at their latest gaming lineup, and you can read over that experience here. One monitor that immediately caught my attention was the Samsung 32″ Odyssey OLED G8 UHD Gaming Monitor, and as a gamer and content creator, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.
The design language is very similar to the Samsung 27” Odyssey OLED G6 I reviewed back in September, featuring the same silver finish, thin bezels, and an RGB halo circling the connection point for your chosen mounting system. It’s incredibly stylish without being over-the-top, but that is where the similarities end.
With a 32-inch OLED panel supporting resolutions up to 4K, a 240Hz refresh rate, and a 0.03ms response time, the Samsung 32″ Odyssey OLED G8 UHD is built for action-focused cinematic titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Black Myth: Wukong. It’s titles like these where OLED truly shines as well, with contrast and colour reproduction delivering true blacks, real-to-life shadows, and colours that almost burst out of the screen – something that a traditional LCD panel can only dream of.
Each pixel is powered by its own LED, capable of replicating 1 billion colours with a DCI-P3 rating of 99%, so colours naturally blend into each other. It also allows for a clear separation of colours and textures, which not only makes for a more realistic experience, but also benefits fast-action competitive games such as Call of Duty or Rainbow 6 Siege.
Enemies trying to hide in the shadows will be easier to spot, and together with the 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time, even the slightest movement will draw your attention.
These features also make the Samsung 32″ Odyssey OLED G8 UHD an excellent choice for creative workloads. While the typical brightness sits around 250 nits, the per-pixel lighting of OLED makes HDR content pop far more than the numbers suggest. Being factory-calibrated, out-of-the-box colour accuracy is incredible, and support for HDR10, HDR10+, and HDR10+ Gaming, high-dynamic-range content looks outstanding in both games and media.
As a flat panel, viewing angles are predictably impressive, with a uniform 178 degrees in both horizontal and vertical directions. The display remains edge-to-edge consistent, regardless of what you’re using it for, but with the stand allowing you to adjust the height, tilt, swivel, and pivot, it’s unlikely you’ll be working anywhere but the front of the screen.
Samsung has packed the Samsung 32″ Odyssey OLED G8 UHD with all the gaming features you’d expect at this tier. FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync compatibility ensure smooth, tear-free gameplay regardless of whether you’re running AMD or NVIDIA hardware. Game Bar 2.0 gives fast access to refresh rate, HDR status, VRR, and other useful tools without leaving your game. There’s also a virtual aim point, Core Sync ambient lighting, and Ultrawide Game View support for compatible titles.
One of the more unique elements of the Samsung 32″ Odyssey OLED G8 UHD is its Tizen Smart OS, which effectively turns the monitor into a smart TV without a PC connected. Supported by built-in WIFI 5, apps like YouTube, Netflix and Samsung TV Plus are built in, along with cloud gaming support and wireless display functionality. Still, it’s worth noting that these features may not be available in your country.
Connectivity is well covered, with two HDMI 2.1 ports, DisplayPort 1.4, a USB hub, and Bluetooth, alongside the previously mentioned WiFi. The included 10W Adaptive Sound speakers are surprisingly decent for casual use, though they won’t replace a dedicated audio setup.
Samsung also addresses one of the biggest OLED concerns – screen burn. Samsung’s OLED Safeguard+ is a dynamic cooling system that uses algorithms to predict surface temperature. Working alongside a dedicated cooling system, it adjusts the screen’s brightness to help prevent burn-in. Samsung is so confident in these systems that burn-in protection is included under warranty for normal usage, which goes a long way toward easing long-term ownership worries.
Between the jaw-dropping OLED contrast, blisteringly fast 240Hz refresh rate, and excellent out-of-the-box colour accuracy, the Samsung 32″ Odyssey OLED G8 UHD Gaming Monitor is one of those rare displays that genuinely feels like a generational leap rather than a simple refresh. It delivers an experience that works just as well for cinematic single-player gaming as it does for competitive esports or creative workloads.
