For the past 25 years, Snakebyte has been designing third-party gaming hardware and accessories, selling over 30 million products to date. Thanks to the folks at Snakebyte, we got an early hands-on with their latest charging station, the Snakebyte Quad Charge S2, which is now available in parts of Europe and coming soon to Australia.
The Quad Charge S2 comes neatly packaged in a box labelled with some information on the back. Inside includes the Quad Charge S2 itself, a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, a quick start guide and a warranty guide. The Quad Charge S2 works the same as Snakebyte’s other Joy-Con charging station, the Twin Charge S2, but can charge up to four Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons.
This is a fantastic product for those whose Joy-Cons run out of battery and need another pair already charged, or for those who have extra Joy-Cons ready for when friends come over. Normally, Joy-Cons can only be charged while attached to the Switch console while it’s on, but this charging station allows for Joy-Cons to be charged externally, so you’ll always have a pair ready for gaming.
Setting up is as simple as it gets. Simply place the charging station on a desk, cabinet, or wherever is convenient and safe, connect the charging cable between the charging station and a power outlet, and you’re good to go.
This charging station is specifically for the Switch 2 Joy-Cons due to their physical design, which fits perfectly into the charging station’s slots; the Joy-Cons for the original Switch will not be compatible. I’m not sure if Joy-Cons from other third-party brands will be compatible either, even if their physical designs fit into the slots, but they might be worth trying if you have any.
The Quad Charge S2 has a sleek, sci-fi design. Not only does it charge up to four Switch 2 Joy-Cons, but it also looks good next to a TV, consoles and other electronics. The most noticeable feature, of course, is the LED and RGB lights. There are four LED lights that act as indicators while charging their respective Joy-Con; red indicates it’s still charging, and green indicates it’s fully charged.
The quick start guide says the LED lights will turn yellow to indicate an error, but it doesn’t explain how an error might occur, and this never happened during my testing. Perhaps it’s to indicate that a Joy-Con isn’t connected properly or a third-party Joy-Con that isn’t compatible.
The RGB light is purely for style for your gaming setup, but the simple design has plenty of it. Behind the charging station is a button to change the RGB light to different colours. The default has multiple colours moving around and will likely be most people’s favourite, but can be switched to various single colours or turned off if users want to reduce distractions while they’re focused on their games. Even with the RGB light switched off, the Joy-Cons will remain charging.
The most important aspect of a charging station is how fast it charges, and we’re glad to say it’s indeed fast. Currently, there is no Australian price for the Quad Charge S2, but if it matches the European price, it should be $52.29 AUD, which is a great price for a device that can charge four Switch 2 Joy-Cons at a fast rate.
There is a lot to like about the Snakebyte Quad Charge S2. It works excellently, charges fast, is easy to set up, simple to use and is satisfying to look at, adding plenty of style to your gaming setup.
So whether you need to switch to a freshly charged pair of Joy-Cons, need a quick charge or have friends over for some multiplayer fun, the Snakebyte Quad Charge S2 has got you covered.
