6 Best Apps To Watch Live TV On Firestick

The Firestick is a product by Amazon that has become popular in recent times with the surge of smart television. With this tiny gadget, you can practically change any TV into a smart TV and have a base library of more than a million movies, TV shows, music videos, and even live sports events.

Using just a television, an HDMI connector, and an internet connection, you can have a plethora of well-known streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and HBO Max at your fingertips. If you have recently got yourself a Fire TV and are curious about what apps to get started with, this article might come in handy.

Best Apps to Watch Live TV on Firestick

The Amazon FireStick is a dream device for those who consume content daily. Personally, its influence in my life has been that of making me the host for grand yearly events like the Super Bowl. Following are some apps that I use almost every day to get my entertainment filled.

  • YouTube TV

YouTube is a common video streaming site that has been around the internet since the year 2005. It started as a hub for people to upload videos, but now offers many services like movie rentals, live streams, and reel-like videos like Shorts.

In the year 2018, the app had to be removed from Firestick due to the separation between Google and Amazon, but recently, the app was made available through the official Amazon App Store all around the USA.

If you are not in a particular area, then you can also jailbreak and get into the YouTube app using Firestick.

  • RedBox

This app on Firestick allows you to stream live TV for free and gives you access to various kinds of entertainment like news, kids’ shows, and movies. Though the free version comes with advertisements, the company also increases the number of channels regularly. You can use RedBox TV for live TV channels too. It is a popular website where you can rent out videos to watch.

Currently, Redbox for free is only available in the USA, but it can be accessed internationally by using a good VPN service. Some new additions include Redbox Comedy, Redbox Spotlight, and Redbox Rush. Even if you don’t have the app, you can still access the website through the available browser app on your Firestick.

  • Roku Channel

Roku is a company that started off as a streaming service with free, on-demand, licensed, linear, and original content. Today, the brand also has its version of an Amazon Firestick known as the Roku Channel. You need not get the controller for it, but the app can be used to access hundreds of movies, music, and sports channels.

As of 2020, Roku Channel has gained over 43 million users and thousands of free-to-watch TV shows, movies, and over 115 linear channels.

Currently, it is available only to consumers in Canada, the US, and the UK, but the app can be broken into using a FireStick. I particularly like it for the soap operas and drama shows it offers.

  • Pluto TV

Pluto TV is an online internet television site service that is under the company Paramount productions. The free service has channels ranging from news, sports, live events, entertainment, and movies. You don’t even need to log into the Pluto TV app, and the 200+ channels and on-demand content are really all for free.

You can find a lot of content on Pluto TV, from Channel 5 news station to MTV, as well as classic movies you might not find anywhere else.

  • Kodi

Kodi is a media hub that runs on software that supports the installation of third-party plugins according to how the user wants it. You can compare it to a sizable media library with a great range of multimedia including audio and video files. Its code infrastructure also has a tonne of cool features and plenty of opportunity for growth.

Though you will find local channels and on-demand programs, you can still connect to external repositories and download media through other sources. Kodi can be accessed by a jailbroken Firestick, and you can get access to many popular services like BBC iPlayer, Prime Video, Netflix, and Hotstar.

  • Tubi

When you cannot find a movie or a show online, you might most likely get it on Tubi – or so I have experienced, with the streaming platform’s wide range of over 200 live music, entertainment, sports, and news channels. The service is easy to use and is extremely customer friendly – you won’t even need to sign in!

With over 38,000 movies and shows to offer, a convenient user interface, and easy to handle parental experience, you will surely enjoy having Tubi around. The only con of this massive library is that you cannot get rid of advertisements in the free version, and there is no strict restriction of age for the same.

Final Thoughts

Apart from all the apps mentioned in this article, Amazon FireStick also has a lot more to offer in terms of entertainment. Some of my personal picks include YouTube and Netflix for popular TV shows, ShudderTV for all the horror in the world, and Crunchyroll if you want to watch some good animation.

This device has a lot to offer, and if you want to be in touch with current multimedia, then investing in Fire TV is a great place to start with!
