One of the most highly anticipated video game releases in recent memory is very nearly here. It’s been 12 long years since fans of Harry Potter have been able to fully immerse themselves into the realm that is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. But on February February 10th, that all ends.
The latest installment from J.K Rowling’s Wizarding World will be coming to games libraries on Next Gen consoles and PC on February 10th when Hogwarts Legacies is finally released. And it’s been a long time coming.
Not only have fans of the franchise been waiting for over a decade for a new video game, but they have also been made to wait even longer for the newest release. The game was initially set to be unleashed into consoles worldwide back in 2021, however, the release was postponed, initially until late 2022. The release was then delayed once again, with February 2023 penciled in as the new date of the release.
And although fans may have been disappointed with the prolonged waiting time, it just goes to show the dedication of developer Avalanche Software to ensure that the game does the franchise justice. And for the first time in Harry Potter history, fans will be able to create their own wizard or witch and embark on their own magical adventures.
Previous games have simply allowed players to play through the story provided in the money-spinning movies. That all changes next month, and we, for one, can’t wait. There will be plenty of puzzles and strategy games for players to complete similar to cafe baccarat online. Will you decide to be the stereotypical good character, or will you channel your inner Voldemort and leave the realm in darkness?
If you are a Harry Potter fan, then you know that the upcoming release is one of the most highly anticipated of the year, just like the rest of the series. From books to movies, the series has been a hit with fans of all ages. But did you know that there are some amazing video games based on the books and movies? Here is a list of the best-selling Harry Potter video games of all time.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001)
This game was released for the PlayStation, PC, and Game Boy Color. It is based on the first book in the series and you can explore the magical world of Hogwarts. You can play as Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they try to solve puzzles and defeat evil wizards.
In North America alone, the game sold 8m units on PlayStation, 1.3m units on PC, and a further 690,000 units on GameBoy. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was the fourth best-selling game on PlayStation of all time in the United States. Impressive, to say the least.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
This game was released for the PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and Game Boy Advance. It follows the events of the second book and movie. You can go through the story as Harry, Ron, and Hermione and explore locations like Hogwarts and Diagon Alley.
The game was the second installment in the franchise and was critically acclaimed, with the soundtrack, with Jeremy Soule even winning a BAFTA Games Award for Best Score in the Game Music Category. The game sold just shy of 9m units across all platforms between the turn of the millennium and July 2006.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
This game was released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC. This game follows the events of the third book and movie. You can explore the magical world of Hogwarts and take on the Dementors.
There isn’t too much data on sales regarding the third installment in the franchise, however, it is confirmed that it did manage to sell just over 1m units on PlayStation 2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is a landmark time in the Wizarding World franchise, as it was at this point where Harry, Hermione, and Ron’s adventures began to take a dark turn.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005):
And by the time we reached the release of the fourth game, which was in November 2005 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and PC, that dark turn was officially complete. This game follows the events of the fourth book and movie. You can explore the Triwizard Tournament and take on the dangerous dragons.
As we all know and remember, the movie and game end with the rebirth of Voldemort and the death of the beloved Cedric Diggory. From here on out, Harry must go to war with the evil forces that have plagued Hogwarts and the magical realm for generations.
In terms of sales, the Goblet of Fire managed to rack up at least 300,000 in the United Kingdom alone.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
This game was released for the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, Wii, and PC. It follows the events of the fifth book and movie. You can explore the wizarding world and battle the Death Eaters. If the death of the aforementioned Diggory wasn’t painful enough, then just get ready for the culmination of this game.
The game didn’t receive as glowing reviews as the previous installments in the franchise, however. Greg Damiano of Game Revolution berated the game in his review, slating everything from one-on-one gameplay to the integration of the movie’s plot points. He did at least compliment the game’s soundtrack. You can’t win them all we suppose.
