Maxis’ The Sims 4 never ceases to amaze with the number of kits added regularly. The newest additions to the ever-growing catalogue, the Comfy Gamer, Secret Sanctuary, and Casanova Cave kits, bring in some fun and fashionable cosmetics and furnishings. For the budding interior designer, there are several items to play with these new drops. While they may not suit every Simmer’s tastes, there’s something for (almost) anyone.

The Comfy Gamer kit, in collaboration with well-known Simmer Kayla “lsimsie” “is perfect for making the ultimate gaming spaces. It’s more femme and cutesy, but I was immediately sold as someone who identifies as both femme and cutesy with the occasional alt-girl streak. Regarding the decor and swatches (which come in pastels, black, and white), I made a second set-up in line with my edgier Sim, a much more sleek gamer set-up for my more alt tastes.

I always felt that gamer items were severely lacking in The Sims 4. I have longed for the day my Sims had a decent gaming desk, chair, dual monitors, an RGB computer tower, peripherals like the PixelPerfect controller, keyboards, and a good headset.

The Comfy Gamer kit seeks to right this wrong. With 30 items for gaming spaces, including a neon sign for streamers, The Sims game posters and game cases, a cute little spaceship, books, shelves, cushions, and plants, there are many ways to customise the space. The sheer amount of interactable items is excellent, too, with the camera, alarm clock, and PC being interactive. I could use furnishings in bedrooms and gaming spaces to suit my vibe.

The only downside for me is that there are no Create A Sim (CAS) items. I would love to have a few gamer outfits and cosy wear thrown in the mix, but for a kit, there was plenty of value for me.

The Secret Sanctuary Kit is good for creating dressing room suites and comfy spaces for your Sims. It has a chaise lounge, a vanity, a standing mirror, and wall decor for the glamorous Sim. My favourite item is the secret bookcase door, perfect for those wanting to create hideaways. Swatches are warm, deep reds, wooden mahogany, creams, and dark greens. With only 12 Build Mode Items, this kit lacked full furnishing spaces, and most items aren’t overly interactable apart from the gramophone and the tea set.

The CAS items include a selection of luxe wear, from a full-length off-the-shoulder gown to pants, shirts, a demure robe, and accessories. The collection isn’t the most suitable for daily use. Still, it is excellent for the more sophisticated Sim, professional Sims, or those heading out for an evening in town.

The room items were suited for a glam-up dressing room. However, I couldn’t use the furnishings often, and with all the included items, the room still felt bare; with the right items from other kits, rugs, flooring and a nice wallpaper, I made better use of it.

The Casanova Cave Kit isn’t your typical “Man-Cave” aesthetic; it’s more of the swanky men’s club deal. With a suave collection of 14 Create a Sim items, including button-up shirts, suits and vests, casual wear, shoes and accessories, there are choices for the more masc sims to wear whilst luxuriating in their den on the swish couch.

There are only 12 Build/Buy items, but they are versatile. I tested some items in different settings and made them with the swatches. I enjoyed that this kit had interactable items like the record player, massive TitanScreen 5000 TV, and the High Stakes Card Table, which is a step up from many kits that fall into the more decor and furnishings style only. If I attempted to use just this kit to deck out one room, there were at least some entertainment options included for Sims.

While there are a few items, I can see myself using some in other spaces. They are here to make a decent set-up for Sims looking for a place to relax and unwind with a game of poker, a cheeky bevvy or a sports-watching night. Still, it may not be enough for everyone.

All of the new kits bring their unique styles into the already massive catalogue of Sims items. Their themes might be limited and not included in every Simmer’s tastes. Still, most items have enough versatility to suit some differing Sim lifestyles.

The Good

  • Varied aesthetics and themes for different tastes
  • Good balance of decorative and furniture items in each kit
  • Customisable items with different swatches and colourways for CAS items especially strong in the Comfy Gamer Kit

The Bad

  • Fairly limited selection of build items and CAS looks
  • Restrictive themes - items in each kit may not be overly versatile for use
