Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Streamers to Celebrate NAIDOC Week on Twitch

For NAIDOC Week 2020, Twitch ANZ is celebrating its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creators and showcasing their live streams from Monday 8 November to Sunday 15 November.

Seven First Nations creators will have their voices and culture featured on Twitch ANZ’s front page and promoted across social media throughout the week, and with this increased visibility, will shine a light on the 2020 theme of Always Was, Always Will Be.

Lewis Mitchell, Partnerships Lead for ANZ at Twitch, said,

“There are fantastic, talented Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creators streaming such a variety of content on Twitch. We’re thrilled to have seven of them in the spotlight as we celebrate the culture and rich history of Australia’s First Nations peoples with our community this NAIDOC Week.”

Ben “BarmE” Armstrong, a Wiradjuri man with a penchant for Dungeons & Dragons, said,

“This showcase is an incredible way to highlight Indigenous content creators in a space they may not be known for, and I’m excited to be involved.”

Armstrong is also Director at Indigitek—a not-for-profit dedicated to increasing the participation and success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in STEM—where he recently oversaw the launch of its Twitch channel that will stream a special ‘Among Us Mob Night’ on Wednesday 11 November.

Adam “Chluaid” Phillips, a talented animator known for his series Brackenwood and work on TV comedy Bob’s Burgers, said,

“I’m humbled to be selected for Twitch’s NAIDOC Week showcase. Born in Narromine, NSW (Ngarru Mayiny, meaning honey people), I have Wiradjuri heritage, and in recent years I’ve enjoyed studying the language of my ancestors. I frequently share Wiradjuri words and phrases on my stream, and throughout NAIDOC Week, I’m inviting my community to learn more with me.”

Other featured creators who are ready to share their culture with the masses include:

  • Teaka “MilkyCommet”, a 24-year-old Gunditjmara woman who’s new to PC gaming, and streams around her full-time work and study commitments
  • Storm “Br0therDarkness”, a proud father and member of the Yorta Yorta Nation who’s new to the streaming space, but attracting viewers with his variety streams and trademark moustache
  • Tessa “Lupawold152”, an Indigenous Australian in her early 30s who’s found streaming to be a creative outlet
  • Nich “Grizz” Richie, a 24-year-old, non-binary Indigenous Australian who loves connecting with his community while streaming role-playing games in an inclusive environment for LGBTQI+ viewers
  • Rubii Red, a proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander woman who is passionate about art and playing video games, especially Fortnite

Twitch is live, interactive, personality and content-based, community-driven entertainment where anyone can play a role in creating the moment. Tune into the NAIDOC Week showcase at twitch.tv
