4Gamers has been around since 2005, providing gaming peripherals at great prices. Only just appearing on my radar as Christmas and Holiday sales come into stores, it feels like they are everywhere. Thankfully for us, at MKAU, we were provided with the ‘4Gamers RADAR 3D Light-Up Gaming Headset’ to check out.

Compatible with Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, mobile, and tablets, the headset is packed neatly with a moulded-on mic, an aux cable, and a USB-C to USB-A charging cable. It is a very simple but neat and tidy.  The AUX cable really makes it compatible with so much and makes it so user-friendly. Weighing 56 grams, it’s really lightweight. Being so compatible and light, they are perfect for on-the-go travel with any device.

Unboxing the 4Gamers RADAR 3D Light-Up Gaming Headset, I was actually pleasantly surprised at how stylish it was. In a classic matte black, the ear cups are made of what feels like solid plastic with a stiffer but adjustable pleather headband.

The headband is padded with foam; however, I feel like a bit more padding, or even memory foam, would alleviate some of the pressure the band puts on your head, as the band itself isn’t very flexible and can get misshapen easily. Weighing 46 grams, it’s really lightweight too.

The earcups themselves are comfy enough, with decently thick mesh foam around each. With what I would consider pretty standard cup sizes, they covered my ears fully. Without noise-cancelling, though, the ambience of the outside world still leaks through.

On the left earpiece, you will find the volume scroll wheel and mute button; on the right, the power button and a light button. The only really unique extra to this headset, and what really makes its appearance incredibly stylish, is the lighting.

It has these insanely cool-looking backlit infinity mirror lights on the side of each ear cup with the RADAR logo emblazoned in the middle. It looks very show-stopping hanging from a headphone stand.

The microphone is moulded in with a bendable microphone. The microphone is covered with a foam pop filter to reduce resonance in your voice. Well, I can’t really hear myself other than through recordings, but even then, my voice was decently picked up, and when I asked friends in Xbox party chat, they assured me it was clear and well-projected.

What is the audio experience like? Well average. With 40mm speaker drivers, it is clear enough for gaming, but it is tinny, treble-balanced, with no real bass. Overall, it’s a bit flat in the sound department. After long stints on Siege X testing, I can say they are not very good at picking up the subtler nuances of sound. Definitely not built for competitive play, these are sound enough audibly for a child to use or a beginner just casually gaming.

What I can confidently conclude, though, despite my grievances, the 4Gamers RADAR 3D Light-Up Gaming Headset is a cracker headset for a child or beginning gamer at its price. It has all the flair of a premium headset; however, it lacks the audio quality needed for competitive play. Available at most Australian retail chains like Big W or EB Games for less than $50AUD, this would be a good little pickup for anyone who just needs something that gets the job done.
