Acer’s Predator lineup has built a solid reputation for delivering serious gaming hardware without breaking the bank, and it’s hard to believe that the last Acer laptop I reviewed was back in September 2024. Now, almost a year later, I’m checking out the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI.

Built with angular lines, subtle lighting, and a robust chassis, the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI looks every bit the predator it is, with the internals proving there’s some bite behind the growl. We received the top-end configuration, packing an Intel® Core Ultra 9 processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU, along with 32GB DDR5 RAM at 6400MHz, and two 1TB NVMe SSDs for storage.

The configuration perfectly matches up with the 16” OLED WQXGA panel, providing a 2560×1600 resolution with a refresh rate of up to 240Hz with 1ms GTG and a 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut. Colours are vibrant, blacks are deep, and motion is incredibly fluid, making it ideal for cinematic titles and very respectable for content creation. Cyberpunk 2077 comfortably ran at over 140FPS while playing in the native resolution with the settings dialled up to 11. The frame rate dropped slightly when I enabled Pathtracing, as expected, but after enabling frame generation, I was back up at over 100FPS, and it remained consistent.

I was a little surprised by these results, as the benchmark tests suggested that the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI probably wouldn’t perform this well. While the CPU scored an “Outstanding” 130% rating through User Benchmark, the GPU managed a mere 68.6% “Good” result. I may be mistaken, but maintaining over 100FPS with Pathtracing is significantly better than “Good”.

Although they each achieved scores over 235%, the two SSDs were listed as “performing way below expectations”, while the RAM was scored as performing well above expectations. It just goes to show that benchmark tests need to be taken with a grain of salt.

The full-sized keyboard is comfortable to use during extended sessions and features 4-zone RGB lighting, which can be set up within the PredatorSense App. It’s a handy all-in-one app that also lets you monitor system performance and determine the system’s power profile, similar to what you’d find in the usual Windows settings, only with more options. I was experimenting with this before running the tests in Cyberpunk 2077, and I had forgotten I had switched to Stealth mode. I was wondering why the cooling system was so quiet while I pushed those numbers.

Acer’s 5th-Gen AeroBlade 3D cooling system does a great job at keeping the laptop cool under sustained load, even when I set it to be as quiet as possible. I played for a solid few hours in Stealth mode, and I was surprised by how cool the top of the keyboard panel was. When you do push the system into Turbo-mode, however, they are quite loud, so you’ll certainly want a decent set of headphones to play your games.

The Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI is dotted with I/O ports, offering plenty of connectivity options for gamers and creators alike. Down one side, you’ll find two USB 3.2 ports, with a third on the other side, sitting next to an RJ45 ethernet port, a 3.5mm headset connection, and, surprisingly, a micro SD card slot.

On the rear is the HDMI port, the power jack, and two USB-C ports, one of which is a Thunderbolt with DisplayPort capabilities.

Some drawbacks may or may not affect your decision, but in my opinion, they are almost negligible. The most noticeable aspect is that the unit weighs in at 2.7 kilograms, so it’s not exactly the most portable device, but that’s not an issue if you’re not using it as such. Secondly, there is the battery life. This particular unit comes with a 76Wh battery, which is sufficient for basic tasks like viewing documents and browsing the internet, but you can squeeze a little over an hour if you’re doing anything more demanding.

Also, it’s not an issue if you’re setting it up on a desk. The final issue is the speakers – they seem to be the normal, run-of-the-mill laptop speakers, but considering most people game with a decent set of headphones, this is, once again, not much of a problem.

At the end of the day, the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI delivers exactly what it promises – great performance in a package that won’t wreck your bank account. What you do get is a machine that’s powerful, cool under pressure, and packed with enough connectivity to handle gaming, content creation, and day-to-day use without compromise. If you’re looking for a gaming laptop that balances cutting-edge hardware with a more approachable price point compared to some of the competition, the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI is a beast worth unleashing.
