Ever since the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 back in June, third-party companies have been designing peripherals and accessories to help improve or provide alternatives to the official Nintendo products. ANTANK has provided us with their own Dock design for the Switch 2, known as the ANTANK S3 MAX TV Dock Station, to compare it to the original Nintendo product.

Two versions of the ANTANK S3 MAX TV Dock Station are available: one with an Ethernet port and one without. The version we have is the one without an Ethernet port. It comes neatly packaged in a small box, with a user manual. If you know how to set up the original Dock, then setting up the ANTANK version is just as simple. Unfortunately, neither version comes with an HDMI and power cord, so you’ll have to provide those on your own or just use the ones that came with the Switch 2.

The ANTANK Dock itself is much smaller, lighter, and more minimal compared to the Nintendo version, and easily fits into backpacks and suitcases, leaving more space for your other belongings. This makes it ideal for travellers who want to keep up with their gaming during downtime, as it can easily be set up in friends’ homes, hotel rooms, offices, and more. Of course, it can also be used at home instead of the Nintendo Dock or even set up in another room, allowing players to use their Switch 2 console between two TVs without needing to move a single Dock and all its cords.

The Dock features a triangular design and is as wide as the Switch 2 screen, with a blue panel on the left and a red panel on the right, representing each Joy-Con. Underneath the Dock are anti-slip mats made of rubber to prevent it from slipping.

The Switch 2 fits nicely into the groove, featuring a USB-C port in the middle to charge the battery and display the picture on a TV. It may look like it’s barely balancing, but the console is held in nicely and securely and won’t easily be knocked over. The picture quality on both the Switch 2 and TV screens looks just as good and performs just as well as using the original Nintendo Dock. With the right TV, it can achieve that beautiful 8K/4K quality screen at 120Hz.

On the back are ports for the power cord, HDMI cable, two USB-A ports for charging controllers or other peripherals, and an Ethernet port, if players opt for that version. Also on the back is a button to switch between the Switch 2 screen and TV screen, allowing the Dock to serve as a stand while charging simultaneously. The charging can be just as fast as Nintendo’s Dock, with a 100W power input, depending on the power cord used.

As a Nintendo console, it is recommended to use an official Nintendo brand power cord to charge the Switch 2, as this can help prevent possible damage, just like its predecessor. This is also explicitly stated on the product page on the official ANTANK website. As mentioned above, a Nintendo brand power cord or any power cord for that matter, doesn’t come included with the ANTANK Dock. Power cords from other brands can still work, but you’ll be doing so at your own risk.

This Dock may not have an in-built fan, but its design, lacking walls around it, allows for more airflow around the console to help keep it cool, provided other objects do not surround it. It does leave the whole screen exposed, however, so it’s best to be mindful when moving items near it. Underneath the Switch 2 are two vents that allow air to pass through and exit through the top, keeping it cool. The official Dock is designed with its own vents to help accommodate this.

The ANTANK Dock doesn’t have this feature and is blocking the bottom vents underneath, possibly not allowing as much air to pass through. This could cause overheating if playing for long periods and depending on the game being played, but from my time using this, it hasn’t been an issue, and there don’t seem to be any complaints from other customers so far, just some speculation, so only time will tell if this becomes an issue later on.

The Nintendo Switch 2 already comes with an excellent working Dock to play games on a TV, which also keeps the console cool. However, the ANTANK Dock is a brilliant alternative. It’s easy

to set up, provides the same picture as the official Dock by Nintendo, and best of all, it’s small, lightweight, and minimal, making it perfect for travel. The Nintendo Switch 2 is designed for both home and on-the-go play, and the ANTANK S3 MAX TV Dock Station has made that even easier.
