Nanoleaf is an innovation. There is no ifs or buts about it. It seems like every time they send a new product, I’m amazed by the quality of the build and the ingenuity that goes into it. I think one of the best examples of this is the ‘Nanoleaf Multicolour Rope Light’. With its unique design and innovative construction, this is an outstanding product for enhancing the lighting atmosphere.

Much like the light strips, the rope lights are already neatly pre-coiled, but they are significantly heavier in weight. As you unroll them, you will soon realise why. This thick plastic band of light strip is coated in thick but flexible frosted silicone that can be bent and shaped in any direction. Coming with a wall power plug this time around, I feel my options for placement just blew wide open.

I love not being restricted to a USB-C or USB-A port because my computer is already in one room and is full of RGB lighting. Due to this frosted style, the colours diffuse beautifully, with no harsh ‘in your face’ light but a nice pastel glow instead. It was very impressive in its lighting ability and atmosphere creation.

Much like the floor lamp and the PC Striplights, it has an attached control button that cycles through a preset of colours, patterns and designs. Also included are a plethora of mounting clips. These are smart little gadgets that the rope can firmly secure into, attaching to the wall via a stick-back or can even be screwed in.

These are quite ingenious, and while I appreciate the glue not peeling my paint, I did find that two have fallen off during my testing period. These are easily replaced if you have spares, and you can simply add more for support. However, the website does warn that they are intended to be screwed into the wall.

This appliance offers customisation in two ways. Firstly, formation. You can bend and twist this rope in so many creative and inspiring ways to decorate your walls. From waves to a city shape, the shape of a heart or cat, to even my own name in cursive, the possibilities blew me away. You can also use it to highlight any features you already have on your wall, too.

Secondly, you can connect the Nanoleaf Multicolour Light Rope to the Nanoleaf Mobile or Desktop App via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Here you have direct access to over 16 million colours and the creative minds of others as they design colour schemes you can download and use yourself. They offer a smorgasbord of creative designs to suit any mood or occasion. Feel like a party? Download a scene that pulsates to the music.

A calm night at home? A nice static blue. A hardcore gaming session? An RBG rainbow cycling dream. With Scene Creator mode, you can even develop your own schemes till your heart is content. The Nanoleaf software is one of the best on the market and is very state-of-the-art in delivering a quality experience for its users.

While I refused to use the A.I. Magic Scenes, as it sucks away from the community-driven aspects and adds absolutely no value to the app, I do love the use of Screen Mirroring technology. This enables the lights to sync with what you are watching and to adjust the colours to the atmosphere. It’s brilliant and innovative. A.I. is not a personal gripe.

Easily being my favourite of the four products I had the privilege of reviewing lately, this piqued my creative interests the most. Being able to flex a colourful rope of lights into my own designs on a wall aligns well with what felt like an artist painting on a canvas.

Delivering a beautifully ambient glow in such an eye-catching way makes any room a showstopper with this peripheral. The Nanoleaf Smart Multicolor Rope Lights are a great addition to any wall; this is a Nanoleaf must-have.
