In 2021, Nobody introduced Hutch Mansell, a seemingly ordinary family man living a mundane life and isn’t close with his wife and kids. His past was anything but ordinary, being a former government assassin, and after he was forced to use his skills to save his family, it brought them closer together than ever. Now in 2025, this not-so-ordinary family go on a much-needed vacation in Nobody 2, now blasting its way into cinemas worldwide.

Set after the events of the first film, suburban family man, Hutch Mansell, is now closer to his wife and children, but has also grown more distant in other ways, even after knowing he is a former lethal assassin. He still takes on assignments, which keeps him too busy to spend enough quality time with his family. He decides it’s time for a family vacation where they can enjoy each other’s company, make some memories, and Hutch can not think about work. He takes them to Plummerville, a theme park he went to as a kid, but of course, trouble always seems to find him. After an incident involving the park staff and his children, he resorts to his old ways to take care of business, and this also leads to him getting caught up in a criminal conspiracy.

The main cast from the original film all return in the sequel. Bob Odenkirk reprises his role as Hutch Mansell, the former government assassin who often must resort to his old ways to keep his family safe. His casting in the original film had a lot of people scratching their heads as he is best known for his comedic roles, but he more than proved the doubters wrong as his unassuming demeanour became one of the character’s best features and part of what made him a convincing action hero on screen. It’s interesting to see his character development since the first film, because a lot has changed since his secret was exposed, but he also feels that not much has changed at all. Despite his years as a highly trained assassin, he still struggles with basic everyday things, such as taking out the trash on time. Of course, the action scenes are where he truly lights up the screen.

Connie Nielsen returns as Hutch’s wife, Becca. She is a lot closer to her husband than in the previous film, but with the challenges his work causes everyone, and her worrying if he’ll make it home at all, makes her second-guess their marriage. She has also shown a lot of development, as well, with this new life making her mentally tougher and more determined to make everything work, despite the stress it puts on her. There are also certain scenes that show there might be more to her past as well.

Gage Munroe and Paisley Cadorath also return from the first movie as Brady and Sammy, respectively. Sammy is still the most innocent of the family, with a positive attitude and is up for anything. Brady is experiencing some challenges with his teenage years. He has been coming home from school with bruises and black eyes, and Hutch hasn’t been able to commit enough time to have a proper chat with him. Brady is able to look after himself if things become dire, but Hutch wants him to be a better man than he was.

Christopher Lloyd reprises his role as David, Hutch’s father and a retired FBI agent. He joins the family for their vacation and, just like the first film, doesn’t hesitate to pick up a gun or many and join in the mayhem while adding a lot of comedy in true Christopher Lloyd fashion. Wu-Tang Clan member, RZA, also returns as Harry, Hutch’s adoptive brother, who has gone through the biggest change since the original film. He has since taken on a more peaceful Japanese Zen lifestyle, and instead of firing guns, he now prefers to slice and dice with his katana sword.

The latest movie keeps you guessing on who the villain might be. Colin Hanks stars as Abel, a shady, egotistical sheriff who takes things too personally. John Ortiz plays Wyatt Martin, a corrupt theme park operator, and Sharon Stone portrays Lendina, the leader of a criminal organisation. Some characters who start off as villains get a chance to redeem themselves, while others are simply bad to the bone, and you can’t wait to see them get what’s coming to them. Colin Hanks as Sheriff Abel has the biggest ego and is easy to hate, John Ortiz as Wyatt Martin comes across as the most threatening, but there is more to his story and Sharon Stone as Lendina is a maniacal villain with the biggest personality.

Sharon Stone’s character seems like they were setting up something big, but it surprisingly falls short as the film reaches its climax. She gets a strong introduction, and Sharon’s performance easily makes her a character to look out for, but she doesn’t live up to her full potential. Even her henchwomen, played by Rochelle Okoye and Megan Hui, looked strong early on, and when things were just getting exciting with them, it gets cut short. Their characters showed a lot of potential, but the payoff just wasn’t there. Another of Lendina’s henchmen, Kartoush, played by Swiss martial arts star Daniel Bernhardt, does get a slightly bigger feature, however, in an exciting fight scene.

Overall, the story of the sequel isn’t as impactful as the original movie, mainly because the biggest appeal was that Hutch’s past as a lethal assassin was kept a secret from his family, and he was struggling to live life as a simple family man.

The story is still entertaining, however, and the returning main cast makes it interesting to see all the character development since the first movie, while keeping a lot of the same unique themes and quirks that made it stand out from other action films. It isn’t trying to top the first movie, just be a fun continuation, and it achieves that. The biggest reason to see this sequel is, of course, the action scenes.

There is plenty of action to enjoy and satisfy your guilty pleasure. In some ways, it might feel tame compared to the first movie, but other times, it goes all out with the violence. Blood will be spilled, bones will be broken, and body parts will be flying. The 2021 film had a lot of classical music that strangely worked perfectly with the action scenes, creating a symphony of violence, but the sequel changes it up a little. The gritty, violent action scenes are back, but instead of classical music, it uses rock music, mostly from the early 2000s, that somehow also works, especially since most of the film takes place at a theme park. A lot of fans of the original film will miss the classical tunes, but we can’t argue that the rock music does compliment the action in its own way.

Action scenes in a theme park aren’t exactly an original concept, but Nobody 2 manages to make something fresh and creative. The big climactic battle in the theme park towards the end is the biggest highlight of the film and more than enough reason to watch the sequel, with the same characters from the original film doing what they do best.

Even with its shortcomings, Nobody 2 is still an action-packed sequel that shows plenty of character development, while keeping the same themes and quirks that helped the original film stand out. The returning main cast helps show that character development, the family vacation inadvertently crossing paths with a criminal organisation creates an interesting premise, and the theme park setting provides a highly entertaining place for all the glorious and violent action scenes to quench your guilty pleasure.

So far, there hasn’t been any word on whether there will be a third movie, but until then, there are already two action-packed movies with the most unassuming protagonist as the lead hero. The second movie may not top its predecessor, but it doesn’t need to. Nobody 2 is a worthwhile sequel, a wild, explosive ride and one hell of an action-packed vacation.
