Razer Hammerhead V3 Hyperspeed Gaming Earbuds, claiming to have ultra-low latency, ultimate immersion, and Bluetooth 6.0. Sounds like the complete package, right? Let’s jump in and see how they perform in gaming and in everyday life alike.

Opening the box, you are greeted with the earbuds in their case, which is a good size. I like how it is longer, rather than high and thick. The case dimensions are 7.6cm x 2.6cm x 5.1cm with a weight of 49 grams. A USB Type-C charging cable, spare silicone ear tips in different sizes, and an information booklet are also in the box. I love the multicoloured LED on the front of the case, not just your boring old one colour, which gives it some life. Charging is via USB Type-C only; no wireless charging is available.

Connecting and pairing these earbuds is very easy: open the case and hold down the bottom button to turn the LED blue to enter Bluetooth 6.0 pairing mode. You can also use the USB dongle included in the case for wireless connections. This is extremely useful for all types of gaming machines, PlayStation, Xbox, and even the Nintendo Switch.

If you want to keep the case charged for those long gaming sessions, you can leave the USB dongle in the case and connect it via the USB-C cable you are provided with; it will work exactly the same as if the dongle were connected. The earbuds can switch seamlessly between 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth 6, ensuring lag-free gaming. The switching is perfect if you have them connected to your phone and are gaming, as they will switch between both hands-free, which is a handy feature.

The silicon on the buds feels extremely soft and comfortable in your ear. Personally, I am not a fan of having buds in my ear canals, but the Razer Hammerhead V3 Hyperspeed Gaming Earbuds are very comfortable. This comfortable but firm seal also assists with the hybrid ANC noise cancelling. I used them at the gym, kids’ netball training, and at home. I was impressed by how much noise they reduced.

The battery life is also impressive, with a huge 10 hours of continuous use on the earbuds, plus another 30 hours of charge with the case. This time will be reduced if you are using a noise-cancelling feature, but even at 8-9 hours, it is still enough for any long gaming session, and it is straight back into the case to charge when not in use. Each earbud weighs 5.6 grams, which is light and helps reduce ear fatigue.

When connected to the PC, you have full THX 7.1 audio for precision and realism, helping you hear footsteps and other movements when gaming. The Razer audio app is super simple to use. I installed it on my iPhone and was connected within seconds. Here, you can switch between preset profiles or adjust the equaliser to a custom setting. Equally, you can connect to the Razer Synapse web application, which I did find had a few more options and customisation.

The earbuds are IPX4 rated, meaning they are water resistant in case of rain, sweat, or spills, perfect for trying to survive in my gym bag! There are numerous “gestures” for controlling the earbuds through a series of taps or swipes, answering phone calls, adjusting the volume, or skipping tracks when you are using them on your phone.

The allure of earbuds is their convenience, size, and comfort, so don’t expect a state-of-the-art microphone given the distance from your mouth, as with most earbuds. While the microphone is clear and performs well, it can sound hollow or distant.

It is effective at blocking out background noise, as I did have to take a few phone calls at the gym, and, as always with new technology, the mandatory call to the wife to test clarity, all while I can tell she is rolling her eyes on the other end of the phone. Ambient mode is also handy, amplifying the sounds around you when active to enhance situational awareness. This can be turned off, as with noise cancelling, it does come at a cost with battery drain.

Overall, the Razer Hammerhead V3 Hyperspeed Gaming Earbuds are a solid pair of gaming earbuds that work with all game consoles, phones, and computers. The flexibility to use 2.4GHz Wireless or Bluetooth 6 technology with ultra-low latency makes it ideal for the serious gamer and multitasker alike.

The ability to use the dongle out of the case or leave it plugged in to ensure continuous charging is a masterclass. Razer have knocked it out of the park with these buds. Backed by a two-year warranty from the Razer store, you really can’t go wrong!

The Good

  • Ability to leave the dongle in the case and charge
  • Low latency with Bluetooth 6 and 2.4Ghz Wireless
  • Light weight

The Bad

  • Distant-sounding microphone
  • Reduction in battery life when using noise cancelling, as I would suggest most users would leave it on constantly
