ROG THOR 1600W Titanium III PSU (Hardware) – Review

When building my current PC, I didn’t consider the power supply. I figured it would do the job as long as it provided what I needed, but I didn’t leave much room for improvement.

I didn’t realise how much of an oversight I had made until ASUS provided us with the TUF Gaming 1000W Gold White Edition PSU that’s currently powering our benchmarking system, comprised of a white TUF Gaming GT302 ARGB case, the ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming WiFi II Motherboard, an ROG Strix LC III 360 AIO Cooler, and an ROG Strix Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 OC Edition GPU.

This year, they’ve stepped things up a notch, sending us an ROG THOR 1600W Titanium III power supply. This modular system is compatible with ATX 3.1, decorated with glorious RGB, and delivers unwavering GPU performance through a patented intelligent voltage stabiliser.

You’ll want to make sure that you can show off the ROG THOR 1600W Titanium III power supply; it’s a really impressive design that proudly displays the ROG logo and comes with a magnetically attached OLED display that shows power draw in real-time, alongside some Aura Sync compatible accents that add some extra flair.

The main attraction, at least for me, is that the system is entirely modular. Power is delivered to various system components through etched cables that can be plugged into the PSU as required. It makes for a tidy build, as you won’t have to tuck away excess cables – you only connect what you need. Each connection port is clearly labelled, with sections dedicated to the CPU and PCI-e ports, including additional slots for ATX 3.1 capable graphics cards, the motherboard, and peripheral, SATA, and Molex.

It comes with all of the cables you’ll need, including the motherboard cable, two CPU cables, two 16-pin PCI-E 5.0 cables, a host of PCI-E 1-to-1 cables, as well as SATA cables in both 1-to-4 and 1-to-3 configs, some 1-to-3 peripheral cables, and an Addressable RGB cable, allowing you to sync the RGB up with other Aura Sync elements.

For the technically minded out there, the ROG THOR 1600W Titanium III power supply comes with an efficiency of 80Plus Titanium and comes with the OPP/OVP/UVP/SCP/OCP/OTP Protection features. It’s capable of supporting 110-240V inputs, making it suitable for use across the world, and is cooled by ROG Heatsinks and fans with dual-ball-fan bearings.

A GaN MOSFET delivers up to 30% more power efficiency than standard MOSFETs, and as mentioned before, GPU-First voltage sensing with patented intelligent voltage stabilisers, enhancing voltage delivery to your GPU by up to 45% for smoother gaming experiences.

Adding style and flare to an otherwise boring component, alongside simple DIY features that make it suitable for anyone to install quickly and easily, delivering more than enough power for even the saltiest gaming enthusiast. If you want to build the ultimate gaming system, the ROG THOR 1600W Titanium III power supply has your power requirements sorted.

The Good

  • Simple DIY installation
  • Modular connections for a clean build
  • Stylish design adds flare to your build
  • Incredible power delivery that prioritises GPU

The Bad

  • Interesting design elements may be hidden by the case
