When you are in the market for a new gaming headset, it can be daunting to sort through the endless options. Every brand promises the best audio, the clearest microphone, or all-day comfort for you folk who don’t touch grass, and all the options start to merge. That is where SteelSeries has managed to stand out over the years, building a strong reputation for reliable gaming gear that focuses just as much on comfort as it does performance.

Known for its Arctis line, SteelSeries has become one of the brands constantly mentioned whenever gamers talk about quality headsets. After spending some time with the new SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless Gen 2 Headset across long gaming sessions, music, movies, and everyday use, it feels less like SteelSeries is trying to reinvent the headset market and more like refining what already made the Nova series popular.

Straight out of the box, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless Gen 2 Headset keeps things simple but premium-feeling, focusing more on practicality than filling the package with unnecessary extras. Inside the box, you will find the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless Gen 2 Headset itself, weighing in at a lightweight 325 grams, alongside a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, a compact USB-C wireless dongle, and a USB-C to USB-A adapter for wider compatibility across different platforms and setups.

It was a super clean, straightforward package that gives you everything you need to get started almost immediately. In terms of appearance, the SteelSeries Artics Nova 7 Gen 2 Wireless Headset goes for a sleeker, more modern design rather than the “RGB Gamer” look that most headsets pursue. The matte finish across the headset gives it that stylish but premium look.

The earcups feature a nice, soft memory foam cushion, making them super comfortable to wear during longer sessions. One of the standout features for me was the adjustable suspension headband, which used a flexible fabric strap beneath the main frame that still maintained its simple, premium feel and look.

The materials feel solid throughout, mixing lightweight, durable plastic with reinforced metal elements in the headband to stop the headset from feeling cheap or fragile. The textured fabric on the ear cushions feels breathable and soft against the skin, making it comfortable during extended sessions, while the controls around the earcups feel tactical and easy to reach without breaking the overall clean design. I liked that SteelSeries aimed for a more minimalist and professional look with this new headset.

When it comes to functionality, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless Gen 2 Headset packs in just about everything you would expect from a modern premium wireless headset without overcomplicating things. The headset supports both 2.4GHz wireless connectivity and Bluetooth 5.0, allowing simultaneous audio from multiple devices. That means I can run audio from my PC or console while taking calls or listening to music on my phone.

It’s something that might sound small on paper, but it becomes incredibly useful once you start using the headset regularly. The audio performance is where the headset shines; it’s equipped with 40mm Neodymium Magnetic Drivers, which deliver deep, detailed sound that works well across both competitive and casual games. The footsteps, reloads and directional audio feel sharp and easy to pinpoint thanks to the supported 360° Spatial Audio.

The headset has a frequency response range of 20-22,000 Hz, which helps deliver clear highs, solid mids, and punchy lows without sounding rubbish at louder moments. I was really impressed; whether I was running around playing Rainbow Six or watching something on YouTube, the sound consistently felt balanced and crisp, rather than overly tuned toward one specific style of use.

The retractable ClearCast Gen 2 microphone also performs really well for a wireless gaming headset. Using a bidirectional noise-cancelling design, it does a solid job of reducing background noise like keyboard clicks and fans, so you’re not annoying your friends in parties. I was impressed with the microphone, as it never sounded overly compressed or robotic during use, which is something some headsets struggle with.

The biggest feature people will get behind is the battery life. As gamers, we like to sit there for hours playing our favourite games, and this headset does not disappoint, with battery life up to 54 hours on 2.4GHz wireless and 42 hours on Bluetooth. If you want to run both the 2.4GHz connection and Bluetooth, you should expect around 38 hours. I liked that I rarely had to think about charging the headset, which is great because I always forget to do so.

Even if you are like me and forget and let the battery get down nice and low, the USB-C fast charging support is genuinely useless. With just a 15-minute charge, you can get about 6 hours worth of playtime, which is really impressive. That feature makes it incredibly easy to jump back into a game quickly without waiting for the headset to completely charge.

The software side of things for the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless Gen 2 Headset is handled through both the SteelSeries GG software on the PC and the Arctis Companion App on mobile, and together they add a huge amount of functionality to the headset without making things overly complicated.

Through SteelSeries GG and the Sonar suite, you have detailed control over almost every aspect of your audio experience, from separate volume channels for game, chat, music, and individual applications to custom EQ tuning and microphone adjustments. I liked that there was a huge library of over 200 presets created for specific games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, CS2, and Tarkov, just to name a couple.

I didn’t use them much, but it was handy to have them there if needed. The presets are probably more ideal if you are more into the game competitively than just casually running around. The software also had a separate EQ adjustment for both 2.4GHz and Bluetooth, which was quite surprising and could become very useless if you are using both devices. I was impressed with how user-friendly both software are, even with the amount of customisability, it didn’t feel overcomplicated.

SteelSeries has done a fantastic job keeping the layouts clean, modern and easy to navigate, so you are never worried about using the software. I did like using the mobile app a little more, just for convenience, rather than needing to load the software up on the PC and then fool around with it. The one issue I found with the software was that once you set up the Sonar function, it creates a bunch of new audio outputs on your PC, and the headset starts playing up a bit to begin with.

Overall, the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless Gen 2 Headset feels like a headset that understands exactly what we want from a modern wireless headset setup. Between the lightweight, durable steel-reinforced design, excellent battery life, strong audio performance, simultaneous 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connectivity, and the amount of customisation available through both the software, they’ve managed to balance convenience, comfort and performance extremely well.

In Australia, this headset retails for $299 AUD, which puts it in the more premium mid-range, but it earns that price through its versatility, comfort, and feature set. For anyone wanting a wireless gaming headset that can comfortably handle competitive gaming, casual entertainment, and everything in between, this headset is super easy to recommend.
