The cast and filmmakers of New Line Cinema’s MORTAL KOMBAT II gathered on the Gold Coast tonight for the Official Australian Preview at Event Cinemas, Pacific Fair, marking a homecoming for the highly anticipated sequel, which was filmed at nearby Village Roadshow Studios.
Stars Karl Urban, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Chin Han, CJ Bloomfield, Ana Thu Nguyen, and Desmond Chiam attended the event alongside director/producer Simon McQuoid, celebrating the film’s strong connection where the action was brought to life.
The Honourable John-Paul Langbroek MP, Minister for Education and the Arts acknowledged the blockbuster’s significant impact on the Queensland screen industry.
“MORTAL KOMBAT II is the latest action blockbuster made in our picture-perfect screen capital, the Gold Coast,” Minister Langbroek said.
“Production generated an estimated $68 million for the local economy and employed more than 560 people including local actors and crew, in addition to post-production work completed by Rising Sun Pictures.
“Now, their collective work is ready to light-up screens across the globe and we hope, deliver another knock-out at the box office.”
Filmed on the Gold Coast with the support of Screen Queensland, MORTAL KOMBAT II showcases Queensland’s world-class production capabilities, including highly skilled local crews and versatile locations. The film highlights the Gold Coast’s continued reputation as a global filmmaking destination, with Australian talent and craftsmanship playing a key role both on and off screen.
Fans turned out in force for the event, joining cast and filmmakers to celebrate the latest chapter of the iconic franchise ahead of its Australian cinema release.
