The Best Games With Photo Modes

Photography is a lot of fun and a great way to create art without having to be good at painting or drawing. People love expressing themselves through taking and sharing photos, and it’s one of the reasons why smartphones and social media have become so popular.

Over the years, photo mode has become a common feature in video games, with players enjoying taking pictures of their characters or of the cool things they find in the world. While you can take real photos at a photography studio hire Sydney, you can take plenty of pictures in the virtual world too. Here are some of the best games that have featured photo modes.

Gran Turismo 4

Gran Turismo is one of the best-selling racing games in the world and has been a flagship of the Sony PlayStation. Aside from being an incredibly detailed and impressive racing sim, it’s also known for introducing what was probably the first real photo mode in video games.

On its release in 2004, Gran Turismo gave players the option to control a camera during replays and take photos of their cars during the race. This also included different filters and effects, allowing players to show off their custom-made cars online. As one of the earliest examples of photo mode, it may have been lacking some of the features seen in today’s games, but it was still a great example of what video game photography can be.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Spider-Man is well known for swinging on webs around the city of New York while fighting crime, but he also happens to be pretty good with a camera. His true identity, Peter Parker, works as a photographer for the Daily Bugle, so it makes sense that this feature would be included in the game. Spider-Man, which came out in 2018, featured a great photo mode, but its sequel really improved upon it.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales took all of the excellent features of the original photo mode, including being able to take dynamic action shots of your character, and added loads of new ones. Custom light sources from lights, windows and more all affect the lighting of the shot, and it’s possible to adjust these to create incredible photos.

Ghosts of Tsushima

Ghosts of Tsushima, which was released in 2020, is an incredibly atmospheric game and perfect for a photo mode. Something that sets this photo mode apart from a lot of other games is that you can capture scenes in movement. In other words, when you enter photo mode, the environment around your character is still live, creating new possibilities for photography.

Aside from dynamic backgrounds, Ghosts of Tsushima gives you full control over each aspect of the environment when taking a photo. You can change the direction and speed of the wind, adjust different colours and truly let your creativity run wild.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 has been praised for its excellent storyline and brilliant voice acting, earning it a lot of plaudits even several years after its launch. The original game didn’t actually include a photo mode, but it was added in after the PC release of the game. For fans of photography, it was well worth the wait.

The game world in Red Dead Redemption is incredibly rich, with a lot of different landscapes and scenery to explore. It makes it the perfect game for a photo mode, and Rockstar included lots of different options for budding photographers to enjoy. There are many different filters, and you can move the camera around freely to have full control over your shoot.
