Xbox Announces Updates To ROG Xbox Ally Handhelds

Today, Xbox, Windows, and ASUS announced updates to the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds. These updates are driven directly by player feedback and are designed to enhance the way you play.

Sharing a summary below, check out Xbox Wire for more information:

What’s new: Default Game Profiles (Preview)

Default Game Profiles, available in preview starting today, automatically balance frame rate (FPS) and power consumption for 40 supported titles at launch – including Fortnite, Gears of War: Reloaded, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and more.

This means players can spend less time fine-tuning settings and more time actually gaming. When you launch a supported game, the system automatically applies a tailored game profile. In Hollow Knight: Silksong, for example, the feature can add nearly an extra hour of battery life while maintaining 120 FPS.

Additional improvements

Since launch, we’ve continued to roll out several improvements to make handheld play faster and more reliable, based on player feedback. Highlights include:

  • Improved Gamepad response after login
  • Quicker Library loading, especially for players with large game libraries
  • Improved Cloud Gaming page performance, loading more quickly and more responsive
  • New Game Gallery filter by Performance Fit, helping you see how well games will run on your device
  • Bug fixes and performance enhancements for improved stability and responsiveness

Additionally, last month, we launched full screen experience on the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X—a feature optimized specifically for handheld gaming—which is now available on Windows 11 handhelds and is also expanding in preview to more Windows 11 form factors, such as desktops, laptops, and tablets, for Xbox and Windows Insiders.

More updates, including enhancements like sleep and wake reliability, improved formatting options for microSD cards, and more, with be shared at a later date.

Coming soon: game save indicators next week and AI features in 2026

But the work does end there. Here’s what players can expect over the next few months:

  • Next week, Game Save Sync Indicators will launch, giving players real-time confirmation that their progress is uploaded to the cloud, eliminating guesswork when switching between PC and handheld.
  • Early next year, ROG Xbox Ally X will introduce AI-powered Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) and AI-driven highlight reels to help players easily capture and enhance gameplay moments.
