Inspired by Call of Duty’s original Battle Royale, Black Ops Royale is coming to Call of Duty: Warzone, with the new variant aiming to blend classic scavenger-driven gameplay with modern mechanics, creating something that feels both familiar and refreshingly different.
At launch, players will dive back into Avalon, a large-scale map previously introduced within Black Ops 7’s Endgame experience. Instead of spawning with custom loadouts or quickly rushing toward buy stations, Black Ops Royale strips the formula back to its essentials.
There are no Loadouts, no Buy Stations, and no Gulag system. Every match begins on equal footing, with players entering the battlefield using a wingsuit and only basic starting gear.
Survival relies on scavenging weapons, armour, and equipment scattered across the map. Rather than searching for specific attachments, weapons feature preset archetypes with a defined upgrade path. Each gun has a themed build that supports a particular playstyle, whether that’s close-quarters aggression, stealth, or long-range precision.
With predetermined attachments, weapon choice becomes more about adapting to its strengths rather than endlessly swapping components. As players explore Avalon, they’ll find Attachment Kits that increase weapon rarity, gradually unlocking additional attachments that enhance performance. The result is a progression system where a humble ground-loot weapon can evolve into a fully upgraded Legendary firearm if the player survives long enough.
Beyond weapons, Black Ops Royale brings back several classic equipment pieces that long-time fans will recognise. The Grappling Hook, Sensor Dart, and Trauma Kit return alongside killstreaks and a tiered armour vest system. Players can carry multiple equipment types simultaneously, encouraging tactical choices when approaching engagements or navigating Avalon’s sprawling environment.
Wingsuit infiltration allows squads to glide into their chosen drop zones, while wall-jumping Omnimovement adds an extra layer of agility during firefights. Offering even more ways to traverse the large map, players will find a mix of land, sea, and air vehicles, offering a variety of opportunities to reposition as the match unfolds and the ever-shrinking Collapse forces teams closer together.
Alongside the usual Battle Royale gameplay, optional objectives are scattered throughout Avalon, including bounties, Strongboxes containing armour upgrades, and Relays that provide UAV sweeps or redeployment opportunities. Completing these activities introduces a risk-reward dynamic, giving squads a reason to venture into contested areas seeking valuable rewards.
One of the most exciting mechanics coming to Black Ops Royale is the appearance of Cradle Breaches. These mysterious zones blanket parts of the map in red gas, concealing powerful loot surrounded by zombie hordes, where players willing to brave the chaos can encounter a Mangler boss or access a Mystery Box containing some of the most valuable equipment available during a match. While dangerous, these areas may provide the edge needed to survive the later stages of the game.
The release also ties directly into the broader progression systems across both Warzone and Black Ops 7. Players will be able to complete challenges, unlock weapon camos, and earn rewards tied to upcoming events, including the Counter Skies Event Pass.
With up to 100 players dropping into Avalon across 25 squads, Black Ops Royale appears to embrace the chaos and unpredictability that made Blackout memorable while adapting the formula for modern Warzone gameplay. By focusing on scavenging, weapon progression, and dynamic map events, the mode looks set to deliver a battle royale experience that rewards adaptability and quick decision-making.
