Sometimes.. It’s good to be bad. The overwhelming urge to stick it to the authorities. The beauty of simulation games is that you can step foot into these thoughts and wonders and somewhat live out these desires. Developed by CookieDev, ‘Crime Simulator’ lets you don a balaclava
This review is a comparison of the Xbox Series X; for a fully comprehensive review of ‘Crime Simulator’, you can read our review of it on PC, here.
The premise is exactly as you would expect: you drop into a map and have 3 days to loot a certain value of items from unsuspecting houses.
In the hub, which is your hideout, much like ‘Phasmophobia’, you can use the money earned from fencing your items to buy tools to drop into the next day. The overall objective gameplay and somewhat attached narrative were enough to keep me entertained as the heists amp up.

Gameplay is pretty detailed with lots of devices and tools and interesting mechanics, but controls-wise, a little cumbersome at times. It is not terrible, however, I can’t help thinking the experience was probably a lot smoother on a keyboard and mouse. I often found myself accidentally turning on my torch at pivotal moments instead of crouching like I wanted to.
The graphics and sound design are fine, as the previous review suggests, on Xbox Series X as well. The sound effects are probably a bit tighter as your character relies on listening to door creaks, shuffling foot steps and sirens, but the graphics themselves are nothing special in comparison.
Overall, ‘Crime Simulator’ on Xbox seems pretty on par with its PC version. The only real comparison I imagine would be that any impact is the fact that the controls would be more fluid on PC with a keyboard and mouse.
Pair this experience with the fact that you can play co-op, and you can rack up a wrap sheet that the true thieves of the night would be impressed with.

The Good
- Cool items / Usables
- Customisation skills
- Cool concept
- Interesting voice acting
The Bad
- Sometimes it got repetitive
- More polished sound and lightning for night
