Disney Lorcana continues to grow as one of the most exciting card games on the market, and the brand-new Fabled set is proof that the magic is not dying but becoming stronger. This expansion doesn’t just add a fresh set of cards.

It introduces new layers of strategy with unique rarities, expanded mechanics, and stunning artwork, bringing Disney’s iconic characters to life in bold new ways. Fabled is the ninth instalment in the Disney Lorcana series, which follows on from Archazia’s Island and Reign of Jafar.

There have been some new game mechanics added with the Fabled set, the first being the introduction of the rotation system, which is refreshing the core constructed format by retiring the first four sets (The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into The Inklands, and Ursula’s Return) as of September 5th, when this set drops for all retail outlets.

The new annual refresh will keep the meta dynamic and accessible, and players who want to keep using their older favourites can utilise the new Infinity Constructed format, which removes the restrictions.

​Disney Lorcana has also added two new rarities: Epic and Iconic. The Epic cards are slow between Legendary and Enchanted rarity. You’ll expect to see them more than Enchanted, featuring full-art “open-air” frames and rainbow foil, which stands out really well.

The new one is Iconic, which is the rarest of all the cards, featuring premium alternative art, glossy foil zones, and hot-stamped text, with only two cards being available in the set: Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Prince, and Minnie Mouse – Sweetheart Princess riding a carousel. It’s straight out of a fairy tale.

Alongside the boosters and starter decks, Fabled introduces the “Welcome to the Story Pack”, a pack that has been designed for new players in mind. This pack is a guided entry point with Disney Lorcana, giving beginners everything they need to jump straight into the game without feeling overwhelmed.

Inside you’ll find a pre-constructed deck, tokens, a quick-start rulebook, and even a playmat, all packaged so players can learn the mechanics of the game. This makes the pack quite special because it does not just throw some cards at you; it also shows you the game and how to play it. This is something that is great for new players.

No Disney Lorcana set would feel complete without the return of Illumineer’s Trove, and the Fabled set looks like it’s the most polished one to date. Acting as both a collector’s centrepiece and a practical storage solution, the Trove comes with eight booster packs, card dividers, and a storage box, as well as themed extras, like lore tracker dice.

It’s the kind of product that appeals equally to competitive players looking to expand their decks and collectors who want a premium way to organise their collection from the set. This is another option for newcomers to the game, and though it’s not as beginner-friendly as the “Welcome To The Story” pack, it does offer a hefty stack of cards to get started.
