‘Dynasty Warriors: Origins Vision of Four Heroes’ DLC is the latest instalment from Koei Tecmo Games. A brief overview from the developer site describes Dynasty Warriors: Origins as a journey that ‘focuses on the unfilled dreams of four unsung heroes: Zhang Jiao, Dong Zhuo, Yung Shao and Lu Bu”.

Dynasty Warriors’ main game previously scored an impressive 9/10 from the MKAU team, back in January of 2025. Is the DLC the add-on fans are looking for? Let’s dive in and find out.

The developer, Koei Tecmo Games was kind enough to provide me a few saved games so I didn’t have to work my way through the whole story to try out the new content in the DLC, but that’s the problem, I wanted to play the base game to get and understanding as this is my first adventure into this genre and I was hooked straight away.

Dynasty Warriors is just such a polished, heritage-rich and engaging game, and I can see why its fans have such a large cult following over the years.

After a few hours of getting up to speed, I needed to focus on the task at hand and loaded the DLC saves, and straight away I was leaving Xiangyang for the final battle, ‘Battle of Chibi’. I started the battle preparations, studying the strategies, all the time engaging with the enjoyable storyline and evolving character developments. A short time later, I boarded the boat over to the shore, arrows flying in, action music pumping in the background; I couldn’t help being amped up and ready to fight.

The Visions Of Four Heroes DLC includes an evolved form of the 1000 v 1 system, the title is known for, promising the largest number of enemies in the series history, and it certainly seems like it, the enemies just go on forever. I was 1400 enemies KO’d deep and still going, and the performance was seamless and fluid for the amount of action going on, on screen.

To help you along with the new storyline, there are two new weapons in the DLC –the Bow and Rope Dart, along with new artwork and skill levels on the existing inventory of weapons. Three new companions to fight alongside also join the journey, adding great value to the DLC for existing users.

The bow comes in extremely handy when enemies are charging up for a combo; you can knock them back with a quick shot and get the upper hand.  Existing weapons too get cool art upgrades, new panels and increased level caps; good content additions indeed.

The one annoying factor I found was that every time a critical battlefield notification popped up, the whole game paused as the script was played; you could be mid swing or in the fight of your life, which became quite frustrating, but I understand it is needed in some cases for the dynamic storyline. I also tried to replicate the camera issues from the previous MKAU review, but it appears to be fixed on the PC now.

Overall, if you are a fan of the ‘Dynasty Warriors’ series, this expansion is for you! It is really hard to fault the game or the expansion. You know what you are getting, and that’s what makes it a solid investment.

Vision of Four Heroes DLC continues to show that Koei Tecmo Games’ new direction with the Dynasty Warriors franchise is paying off. The DLC, with its expanded storyline for those fringe characters from the original title and the captivating tale, will continue to provide the fan base and indepth adventure into the ancient oriental times.
