Farming Simulator 25: Highlands Fishing Edition casts its line into new territory, blending the series’ signature farming depth with a refreshing focus on the great outdoors. Expanding its already feature-rich base game, this edition adds fishing, forestry, and new highland landscapes that make the experience feel both familiar and excitingly fresh.
If you want a full breakdown on Farming Simulator 25’s core gameplay, visuals, and performance, make sure you check out the full game review (here), but for now, let’s dive into what makes the Highlands Fishing Edition a unique catch.
The Highlands Fishing expansion for Farming Simulator 2025 dives headfirst into new territory, offering one of the most refreshing feeling updates in recent times. It’s set in a stunning Scotland-inspired region called Kinlaig; this new map combines rugged beauty with agricultural depth. The developers have done a fantastic job of making the map feel alive, with rocky valleys and highland cattle roaming around paddocks.

If you are into a little bit of history, you can find century-old castles placed around the map, and if you are super keen, there are a couple you can gather resources to restore to their former glory. If you are like me and a little bit of a fisherman, then the name explains it all, with you being able to take to the open waters, throw in a line, and if you’re like me, become a long-time member of the caught stuff all club.
The fish themselves were easy enough to catch on the controller, which was the only highlight I could think of with using a controller for this game. I was quite surprised by the fish models themselves. I’m not sure why, but I had something unusual set in my mind, and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice they looked.
The fishing takes centre stage in the expansion, letting players breed, raise, and harvest fish such as salmon, rainbow trout or, like I mentioned before, throw in a line and relax for a little bit, which takes you away from the familiar gameplay loop we’ve all grown to know and love.

If you want to stick to farming, you’ve not been forgotten about with the addition of Onions, and don’t worry, farming these is nothing like cutting them; it will not bring tears to your eyes.
There has been some specialised machinery added to help with you’re successful Onion farm. Over 20 new vehicles and implements have been added, featuring some new brands, including Can-Am, Agri-Spread, and GT Bunning, among others. The additions with the expansion don’t just feel like additions; they feel like the game is now evolving into something greater than we could have expected, which I’m here for.
Farming Simulator 25: Highlands Fishing Edition is a refreshing and well-rounded expansion that reels in something truly new for long-time fans. The introduction to aquaculture, the scenic Scottish-inspired Kinlaig map, and the wealth of machinery at your disposal make this expansion feel like an evolution of the game. The developers took the time to craft an experience that encourages both relaxation and productivity, with fishing offering a calm escape from the day-to-day grind of farming life.
