It’s time to put the Akubras on and step into the Ariats. It’s farming time with Farming Simulator: Signature Edition, where you get sprawling fields, bustling livestock, and power machinery at your fingertips.

This edition of the long-running series brings both newcomers and seasoned fans in for a chance to experience a full scope of agricultural life, blending realistic simulation with accessible gameplay on the Nintendo Switch 2.

The gameplay stays true to the core series identity, which, funnily enough, is farming. It’s made some slight adjustments on the Nintendo Switch 2, but at the heart of the game is still a deep, methodical farming experience built around planning, patience, and efficiency.

Players manage every aspect of farm life, from preparing fields and planting and harvesting up to 25 available crops to handling livestock, forestry, and building their empire further through production chains.

The progression will always feel rewarding as you purchase new buildings, and a huge array of 400 machinery and implements of 150 well-known brands. What really stands out in this addition is how well the developers have perfectly translated the game to the Nintendo Switch 2.

The AI workers are still as useless as ever, but will help reduce some of the work, and the interface keeps management systems approachable without stripping away too much depth. Contracts and missions provide structured goals for newcomers to get some coin in their belt, so they can build their own empire. It was surprisingly fun to lie in bed playing the game.

I was impressed by the sound design, which did a solid job grounding the experience. Each vehicle and piece of machinery has its own distinct engine note, from the low rumble of tractors to the heavier growl of the harvesters gliding through the fields.

I would have liked to see a little more environmental audio to enhance the game’s immersion. The audio is a good mix, but it does not quite go for a cinematic experience, which I was not expecting. The sound design complemented the visuals and controls well while reinforcing it’s a farming simulator with a relaxed vibe.

I was quite surprised by how friendly the controls were in this game, with the controls feeling natural whether it’s docked and you’re using the Pro Controller or handheld using the Joy-Cons. Movement is handled with the left analog stick, and camera controls are handled with the right stick. The ZR and ZL buttons control acceleration and braking, and A is used to enter vehicles and confirm actions.

The game’s core functions are mapped to the D-PAD, which was surprisingly well thought out. I loved how the developers added touchscreen menu navigation, which made things quick and easy to access. Overall, the controls are intuitive and well-adapted for the Nintendo Switch 2, making the game easy to pick up.

Visually, Farming Simulator: Signature Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 delivers a surprisingly polished experience given the hardware. The environment, with three maps to choose from of Europe, North America, and East Asia, was clean and detailed, with the fields looking well-defined and featuring great lighting and weather effects. The vehicles and machinery looked great in detail and surprised me heavily.

The texture quality and draw distance are understandably scaled back compared to other platforms. The frame rate remained smooth in both docked and handheld modes. I’m keen to see what developers can do in the future to push the limits on the Nintendo Switch 2 because this feels like it’s getting close, but I’m sure they could sneak a little more.

In the end, Farming Simulator: Signature Edition proves that the slow, deliberate rhythm of farm life translates exceptionally well to the Nintendo Switch 2. It does not reinvent the plough, but it does not need to. Instead, it delivers a confident, well-rounded farming experience that respects the series’ roots while embracing the flexibility of portable play.

Between its rewarding progression, intuitive controls, and solid audiovisual presentation, and the fact that you get the sheer comfort of managing a farm on your couch or bed.
