FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH (Steam) – Review

Finally, part two of the ‘Final Fantasy VII Remake’ is on PC, and I am excited to check out some of the new visual features it brings. It is no secret that I love Square Enix, and I try to play everything they put out.

While some are hits, some not so much, the ‘Final Fantasy’ series was my childhood and has still been with me as I have grown with age. I fell in love with the worlds they created even when they started becoming more sci-fi rather than fantasy.

If you want to check out my previous review of ‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’, my opinion hasn’t changed in terms of the game as a whole so I will speak only in terms of the differences between PS5 and PC. Check out my original review here.

Connecting a DualSense controller with a PC allows players to use the same controls as the PS5 version. Keyboard and mouse support has also been added, alongside the option to freely customise the controls between world exploration and combat or mini-games.

The controller is the recommended method of play, any kind you have, however, a mouse and keyboard are a viable option as well and by customising it to suit your taste, I found it fine until I went to play the piano mini-game that’s when I gave up on the keyboard.

I did enjoy the camera movement of the mouse; it was smoother and quicker, with a little tweaking. Another thing I enjoy about most PC games is the available fine-tuning, accessibility is always there.

The visuals are amazing, and the world is stunning, especially once you get to Costa Del Sol and the Golden Saucer areas which are absolutely breathtaking. The lighting has been adjusted, and the game’s overall rendering of light is significantly improved and the updated areas and cutscenes are presented with even greater clarity than before.

NVIDIA DLSS support means that frame rates can be enhanced and image quality upscaled. There is now also support for variable refresh rates.

The level of detail for background models and MIP maps for background textures can both be freely configured in the options settings. With this background polygon density and texture density can be set higher than was previously possible, allowing for gameplay with higher-quality graphics.

These changes I picked up on these upgrades immediately cause as great as it still does look on PS5 it looked even better on my PC with a bit of tweaking thrown in as well.
