I never expected this, but I might be an accessory to murder, thanks to developers Realcast and their game ‘Hide The Corpse’, published by HyperVR Games. Originally released on the Meta Quest, it’s now time for PSVR2 players to see if they can outsmart the law.

‘Hide The Corpse’ is a physics-based, quirky, and often hilarious challenge that will see players trying to outsmart the law and get away with murder. Where will you hide the body? Under the bed? Too easy. Perhaps stuffed into a guitar case or jammed into a time machine? Now you’re thinking! You’d better hurry, though, the cops are on their way, and you’ve only got 4 minutes to dispose of the evidence. This title doesn’t have a story to speak of, but it proves you don’t need one to keep players thoroughly entertained through its zany gameplay. Poor Gus.

Hide Gus’ body, dispose of his license, wallet, glasses, comb, lighter, and beloved vinyl record, then leave no trace behind. The objective is really that dead-simple; however, achieving it is much harder than it appears. Many factors will lead to players failing the level, the most obvious being the inability to hide Gus’ body in time, and here is why. Moving Gus around is like trying to drag an apple around with one of those toy sticky hands that you may have played with as a kid.

This big, heavy ragdoll of a man will require a lot of trial and error, which makes stuffing him into a cupboard feel that much sweeter. Disposing of Gus’s personal effects is easy enough and feels more like a lesson in being efficient with your time.

On one hand, you have some hiding spaces with plenty of room for everything. On the other hand, you could simply store the items in a nearby cupboard or drawer, but this approach also means more fingerprints to clean up.

There are 6 official hiding spots per level for you to master. Achieving an S rating on each of the hiding spots across the 6 different locales will unlock a slew of custom looks for Gus. While turning Gus into a zombie might look cool, I didn’t feel like the unlockable costumes were enough to keep me coming back for more.

So what will? Well, first, there are the added extras to the insanity with game modifiers that range from having constant farts, which is a total gas. For the completely insane, why not opt to make Gus twice as heavy? On top of these modifiers, you can also get creative and make your own hiding spaces within each of the levels.

The bright, cartoony art style pairs beautifully with the zany ragdoll chaos that ensues within the game. While the ‘70s aesthetic completes the vibe, it has been set in arguably the golden age of serial killers. Visual performance is, for the most part, top-notch; however, I did notice a few spots within levels where I was able to clip through to the outside, which tends to break the immersive nature of the game.

The sound of fingerprints bursting like bubbles, and the constant release of body gases with the fart modifier turned on, definitely complement the silly fun being had while playing. The constant police chatter over the radio helps to keep that sense of urgency alive and well throughout the game. While I found the soundtrack to be otherwise enjoyable to listen to on its own, it did seem to lose a little of its muster as it blended into the background of the gameplay. Which isn’t really a bad thing, given that you really need to focus on what you are doing.

‘Hide The Corpse’ is a highly addictive, extremely physical, physics-based puzzle challenge that never fails to turn an obscenely simple objective into the fight of your life. If you are on the prowl for a game that is truly easy to play and hard to master, then look no further. This quirky, cartoony, “70s-themed gem is a total trip and well worth the addition to your PSVR2 Library.
