Marvel’s Spider-Man has officially web-slung his way into Magic: The Gathering, and no, this isn’t some wild fan-made custom card set found on Reddit. Wizards of the Coast has teamed up with Marvel to bring everyone’s favourite neighbourhood hero to the Multiverse, and the results are just as flashy as a mid-air backflip over Green Goblin’s glider.
It really captures the whole “with great power comes great responsibility” spiel, so grab your deck and maybe some web fluid because it’s time to find out if Spider-Man can stick the landing in Magic: The Gathering.
The artwork in the Marvel’s Spider-Man set is easily one of the biggest highlights, and I absolutely loved it. Wizards of the Coast and Marvel were incredibly smart in how they approached this, pulling not just from the obvious big battles and iconic movie moments, but also from the smaller details and subtle nods that only true fans would catch.
It feels like each card has a story behind it, whether it’s Spidey mid-swing through New York, or a clever reference to a scene you wouldn’t expect, like him hiding from Norman Osborn on the ceiling after the fight with the Green Goblin.
The attention to detail makes the set feel both nostalgic and fresh, giving longtime Spider-Man fans plenty of “wow” moments whilst still standing as a strong part of Magic: The Gathering.
If you are new to Magic: The Gathering, there are two different styles of booster experiences: Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, each catering to a different style of fan. Play Boosters are designed for gameplay and general collecting, giving you a single pack type that can be used to crack open for fun or to build your deck.
Each Play Booster comes with a mix of commons, uncommons, a rare or mythic card, and the possibility of pulling a special variant or foil, making them ideal. Collector Boosters, on the other hand, are the more premium packs aimed more directly at collectors or showcase hunters.
These are loaded with foils, alternate art treatments, extended art cards, and Spider-Man themed showcase frames that highlight the set’s biggest heroes and villains. They’re not all designed for draft or limited play, but instead, for those who want to chase a more visually striking and rare version of cards.
Together, the two booster types let you choose whether you want to focus on building decks and playing or collecting the flashiest Spider-Man cards for your binder or display.
The “Bundle Box” is the perfect starting point if you’re jumping into the Spider-Man set for the first time. Inside, you get a bunch of Play Booster packs to crack open, which is where most of your cards will generate from, plus a cool promo card with special Spider-Man artwork, which is exclusive to this bundle and you won’t find it anywhere else. It also comes with a pile of basic lands, both regular and shiny foil versions, which give you the building blocks to build your playing deck.
If that was not already enough, you’ve also been given a spindown life counter, which is a big D20 to track your life total while playing, and a sturdy storage box to keep your cards safe and organised. It’s a really nice all-in-one product for anyone new to Magic: The Gathering, or for fans who just want a fun way to start collecting the Spider-Man cards without diving straight into the more expensive collector packs.
The Marvel’s Spider-Man set swings into Magic: The Gathering with plenty of style and just enough substance to keep both new and veteran players hooked. The crossover captures the fun, colour, and personality of Marvel’s webhead, while also offering solid products for both collectors and deck-builders, and balances the responsibility of being a solid Magic set with the great power of one of Marvel’s most iconic heroes.
