Mortal Shell: Complete Edition (Nintendo Switch) – Review

Cold Symmetry and Playstack have brought Mortal Shell: Complete Edition to the much-loved handheld console, the Nintendo Switch. Mortal Shell was originally released in 2020 on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, with the Enhanced Edition, later brought to the current generation of consoles.

If you would like to see a more in-depth review of the Enhanced Edition, you can visit the MKAU website and read the full review here.

The game handled really well on the Nintendo Switch, both while and using the controller, as well as using it in handheld mode with the standard JoyCons. It was a little harder to do some of the combos while using the controller, and I found that sometimes they were not working how you would expect or how the game was telling you they would work.

Mortal Shell: Complete Edition was just as stunning as the console versions. I found some sections of the game a little dark on the Switch itself, but once the Switch was docked, the game looked like something I was playing on the current generation consoles.

Whilst playing handheld, I found things like the text in the dialogue boxes and certain other little bits and pieces were hard to see, but this wasn’t an issue while playing in docked mode.

I’m always surprised by how nice the Nintendo Switch sounds with games. For such a small unit it pumps out some amazing sound, and Mortal Shell: Complete Edition is not one to disappoint. It sounded absolutely amazing, both docked and undocked. I tested the audio in this title out with my RIG headset plugged into the Nintendo Switch and the surround sound was absolutely unreal.

This title has been made available to play on the Nintendo Switch and based on how well it runs, it’s quite impressive that they’ve been able to do this in less than three years. The game gave me so many Dark Souls vibes, which I loved, and I will continue to adventure further into the title.
