Released on March 13th, 2025, Outlawed is a PvE or PvPvE First-Person Shooter from Okami Studio. In my research, I couldn’t find much information on Okami Studio, which, in my past experiences reviewing and learning more about the teams behind the games, is a mystery to me.
Outlawed can be compared to Escape From Tarkov and Call of Duty’s DMZ mode. With its poly-style graphics, it doesn’t seem to add much more to the genre to make it stand out, but it is still a lot of fun and runs smoothly with no issues in my hours of gameplay.
You can choose four gang-style characters to begin with, more of which you can unlock through purchases. There are also some family faces thrown in there, like a Ghost mask. Like a lot of games in this genre now, it has cosmetic purchases that add no gameplay benefits but can allow you to play in your own unique style.

The game itself has two modes: PvE, in which you can go alone or with up to two other players into a 3 km-sized map against AI, and PvPvE, with the same mechanics but with other players also being able to take you out while on your mission.
Both modes have their own daily challenges with their own levels and progress achievements separate from one another. Unfortunately, due to the low player base, I could not get any games in PvPvE in my attempts.
You get to choose the area where you spawn, and then you are left to explore, collecting valuable loot. After that, you are fully looking to extract. You have a variety of weapons and vehicles available on your journey, and alongside the AI Gang Members, you also have over 10 bosses spawning in areas. From my experience and feedback from other players, these bosses feel slightly overpowered.

Over time, you can customise your weapons and loadout, giving you a better edge in battle. However, this takes time and patience, as you can lose your loot on playthroughs. However, there is a vast array of lethal, medical, and other weapons to discover.
The audio on the game is quite satisfying, with weapons sounding crisp and concise. Music is minimal and very limited. So, in-game, the games can seem a little on the quiet side if there are no firefights, as there are not many environmental sounds.
Overall, it is a fun game to play, but with its low player base and not really bringing anything new to the table, it doesn’t do enough to make me put more time into it. But here is hoping that over time, they have a lot of updates in the works.

The Good
- Unique graphic style
- Smooth controls
The Bad
- Low player base
- Limited accessibily options
- No new ideas
