It’s time for me to step onto the fairway and line up my shot, because PGA TOUR 2K25 is now teed off on the Nintendo Switch 2. Originally released on 28th February 2025 for the Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5, which we previously covered, and you can read a full detailed review HERE, the latest entry into the long-running gold sim franchise brings its polished swing mechanics and competitive edge to Nintendo’s hardware. The big question is whether this portable-friendly version can keep pace with its console counterparts, or did the developers lose something between the drive and the putt.
The gameplay was a solid overall experience, though it wasn’t without a few hiccups. I encountered random crashes after finishing the tutorial, particularly in the character creation menu if you take your time creating your pro. Using the quick option avoided the issue, but if the crash does occur, you are forced to replay the tutorial again, which is a pain in the ass. Once in-game, performance was genuinely impressive.
The game held strong frame rates, with no noticeable jitters or stuttering. The Switch 2 continues to surprise me with its capability. Menus are clean, intuitive and easy to navigate, making it simple to jump in and start playing without any unnecessary friction.

I was genuinely surprised by how good the controls felt on the Switch 2. After a short adjustment period, which involved testing the buttons, albeit backwards, but that is because I’m primarily on the Xbox. I actually found myself preferring the experience over the Xbox, which is something I never thought I would say.
Whether I was using the Joy-Cons or the Pro Controller, the controls felt super comfortable, responsive and easy to settle into. Being able to lie in bed, relax and still completely miss a hole-in-one somehow made the whole experience more relaxing and filled a weird void I didn’t know I had.
I’ll be forever impressed with just how the Switch 2’s small speakers can deliver, and this game is a great example of that. The audio quality remains crisp and clear, and holds up just as well as the Xbox version, regardless of whether you’re wearing headphones or relying on the system’s built-in speakers. The game features a fitting soundtrack that enhances the on-screen action without overpowering it, while the environmental sounds are well-balanced and add some immersion.

The overall graphic quality really surprised me. While there was a slight difference compared to the version I’ve played on the Xbox Series X, the visuals still come across as incredibly crisp and clean, which far exceeded my expectations when first booting this title up.
The art style has a clear, well-defined look, with environments being packed with details and the subtle background elements that really make the game feel alive. The level of detail actually blew me away, and it just goes to show how far handheld gaming is coming.
PGA Tour 2K25 on the Nintendo Switch 2 is an impressive portable adaptation that largely keeps pace with its console counterparts. Despite a few early technical hiccups, the strong performance, intuitive controls, crisp visuals and surprisingly robust audio make for an enjoyable and relaxing experience.
Being able to take such a polished golf simulation anywhere feels refreshing, and it’s a clear sign that handheld gaming has truly stepped onto the same fairway as home consoles.
