Rightfully, Beary Arms – Review

Daylight Basement Studio LLC has brought us the next best bullet hell roguelike game on the market. Being dragged into this game is an understatement. There is something awesome about being this cute little teddy bear annihilating enemies with firearms.

You control Beary, a cute, cuddly little bear. You collect and use powerful weapons, each having its own special characteristics and learning curves. The arsenal that Beary can utilize comes anywhere from the Catling Gun, which is a cat that shoots rainbow lasers, down to a replica of Soviet Mosin Nagants. Funnily enough, the better you get, the harder the enemies become, which surprisingly brought more fun to the game.

This game pulled me in so quickly with the amount of action there is. There is no easing into each level – you are thrown into the deep end and shooting to save your life. I ended up dying multiple times, which was expected, but I had so much fun in doing so. Running around as a crazed maniac bear and shooting everything was so much fun.

The developers have done a fantastic job with the controls of this title with the simplicity behind them. They’ve utilized the main movement controls like W, A, S, and D, and you use your mouse a lot, using it to shoot and use your dash ability, which makes for some fun when you are surrounded by a horde of enemies.

You have multiple weapon slots, and when you adventure more into the game, you will unlock the use of these, and you can quickly cycle through the weapons using “TAB”. If these controls don’t suit you, you can remap them to whatever you want quickly within the settings.

I’ve mentioned it before, but there is something about pixel art in games that will always have a spot in my heart. This game has that dark feeling but has bright colours that keep you immersed in the game.

Depending on which weapon you are using, you get the bright colours coming from the end of the barrel, so you know you’re raining down hell on your enemies. The whole UI of this title has a pixel theme with that awesome retro feel everyone loves.

Launching the game for the first time the main menu has this awesome backing track that makes you just want to sit there and listen with its retro electric feel to it – you even launch into the actual story having an electric elevator music theme song behind it. The guns make an amazing sound depending on the weapon you use.

If you love a game where there is non-stop action where you can kill hordes of enemies with some awesome weapons, or if you love the bullet-hell roguelike genre, then this game is designed just for you.
