‘Rise of the Ronin’, a 2024 ARPG, by Team Ninja, is finally on PC and developed by KOEI TECMO GAMES. With a release on PC plagued with woeful dramas due to a rumored stuttering issue, I was concerned when tasked with tackling this otherwise highly acclaimed PS5 title. I remained optimistic however and was surprised by the results, to say the least.
As we have reviewed this title on PS5, this review will cover more of the changes or differences between the PS5 and PC releases. For a more in-depth cover of the game, you can find the review for PS5 here.

No massive changes stood out to me compared to the PS5 release as this seems like just a straight port.

Controls all seem the same with a controller plugged in, with a two-button combo for attacks paired with ranging difficulties, such as easy (Dawn), medium (Dusk), and problematic (Twilight), helping to attract players of all skill types.
With keyboard and mouse though, the controls all transferred over well enough to have fluid movement and control over your character. The most notable thing to me was the graphics.
The graphics weren’t bad, but they weren’t impressive compared to other PC releases. However, this historical narrative set in the final years of the Edo period still provided a euphoric feeling. There were wonderful-looking views and vivid cutscenes, so it did score some brownie points from me for that.
As stated earlier, considering the extensive negative reviews on performance issues, I was concerned when launching the game. However, much to my surprise, I didn’t experience any stuttering matters that most players have been plagued with, or if they did start to they were not as bad.

I did experience some stuttering at specific points with parts of the terrain, map, or NPCs not loading, but with some patience, I managed to have a blast playing. It is a mild irritant but not excessively game-breaking.
To summarise, Rise of the Ronin was a somewhat decent PC release but would probably recommend the PlayStation 5 version for a more optimised experience. While I encountered some stuttering or loading issues, I still enjoyed immersing myself in this narrative-driven game.
I recommend being aware of the problems surrounding Rise of the Ronin and keeping an open mind to patch releases that will hopefully resolve said issues.

The Good
- Immersing story
- Decent graphics
- Decent controls and gameplay
The Bad
- Mild stuttering issues
- Some parts of the terrain or NPC’s take time to load
