The publishing and development teams of Night Blood Interactive, Apogee Software, and Nightdive Studios are back with Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition for your Xbox. So, if you are on Team Green and looking for an old-school first-person shooter to scratch that nostalgic itch, they’ve got you covered.

As this is the first time any Rise of the Triad has come to the Xbox, you will have plenty to play, easily clocking in over 24 hours of carnage. If you have played Rise of the Triad or any of its expansions before, Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition comes with all of that and new content, so returning players won’t be missing out either.

This review will focus primarily on the similarities and differences between the PC version to the Xbox version.

Straight off the bat and most obviously the controls are all on the controller. Being one who prefers a keyboard and mouse for my shooters, this was a slight learning curve for me, but certainly nothing I’d complain about, as I quickly adapted and was having a blast in no time, however, if you have a console, a keyboard and mouse it is compatible. For all you first-person shooter veterans on controllers, you will have no qualms at all as the setup is standard, and if anything isn’t to your liking, you can remap the buttons.

The graphics are one hundred percent identical to that on the PC, and the 4K glow-up and a higher resolution continues to achieve over 60 frames per second. Even with the pixelated graphics, it is visually pleasant to look at, and this is all while maintaining its buttery smooth run and gun gameplay. The audio is no different, and once again is completely comparable to what I experienced on the PC. It features all the classic 90s sound effects and music, and the option to change it up to the rebooted 2013 version is there as well.

Ultimately, Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is a perfect fit for anyone looking to revisit their past or wants to play an old-school first-person shooter.
