Silence Channel 2 (Steam) – Review

Developed and published by Lexip Games, Silence Channel 2 is based on true stories, and it will have you unlocking different episodes as you solve various puzzles and hide from unknown enemies while searching for items, but sometimes running and hiding isn’t an option.

You’ll have to attack the strange entities and creatures that dwell in the darkness. If you like horror games as much as I do, then you will love this one. Available now on Steam, let’s dive in and prepare for a good scare.

You begin your first story as an unknown female character, woken from her sleep by a strange and menacing figure standing in the doorway. Scared and afraid, she must navigate her dark home, find objects to unlock new areas of the house, and avoid the spooky scary monsters that love to jump scare you.

Diving into one story, you’ll follow a path that brings you closer to the next character and unlocks their story. As the mysterious woman makes a call, we take control of a detective, and a whole new story starts to unfold.

Each episode creates an intense atmosphere and completely flips everything on its head. While trying to complete challenging puzzles throughout the episodes, you’ll face many enemies that you will either need to run and hide from, or you can straight-up attack them with the variety of weapons you can find. The complex puzzles had me stumped for a while, and suggesting that they got the brain fluid flowing was an understatement.

Using only a mouse and keyboard, I found that some controls were weirdly placed. Left and right lean are set to Z and C, while Q is used to examine items, and E is for interacting with items and doors. WASD still controls character movement, and the mouse is used for looking around. In saying that, you can change key bindings, alleviating these issues.

Silence Channel 2 reminded me of a game called The Long Dark, with its unique shading of objects and enemies that featured great attention to detail. The scenery, as well as the many detailed items, create a sense of realism that brings everything together, but only when you can see through pitch-black hallways, and being lit only by a lighter or a torch creates a thrilling and spooky atmosphere.

Nothing says scary like solving puzzles and running from enemies in the dark.

Sounds create an atmosphere like no other, with deep vibrating tones and eerie music that fades in and out keeping you on edge at all times. It gives you the feeling that your heart will jump out of your chest. Silence Channel 2 also has some great voice acting, with lines accurately delivered to reflect what is happening at the time, while the enemy noises and the scripted audio cues hit the nail on the head, creating a real “Wow!” factor.

Silence Channel 2 brings a lot to the table with its unique puzzles, environments, and enemies. The amount of detail and thought put into each episode with such a low purchase price makes it an excellent purchase for horror fans looking for their next big scare. As an up-and-coming game, I can see myself playing Silence Channel 2 all the way through, and with regular updates, patches, and new content added, I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
