With the upcoming release of the latest update for ‘The Elder Scrolls Online’, MKAU Gaming had the pleasure of attending a hands-off preview event to see what we can expect in ‘Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 1’. The newest update arrives on June 2 for PC and on June 18 for consoles, and when the update arrives, players will take on a new story-based adventure in The Elder Scrolls Online: Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 1.

The Seasons of the Worm Cult story is a direct sequel to the main storyline in the base game of The Elder Scrolls Online, focusing on the return of the Worm Cult following the demise of Mannimarco’s.

This new incarnation of the Worm Cult will be led by a new character named Wormblood. Part 1 of Seasons of the Worm Cult allows players to travel to the island of Solstice, an isolated location far off the southern coast of Tamriel, making it the perfect place to host the Worm Cult’s return.

Solstice has a Mediterranean look and feel with its sun-drenched, warm, and coastal, but it still has that eerie feeling because of the Worm Cult’s presence and the giant Writhing Wall that splits the island in half. The wall is made up of souls and was designed to be an always-present backdrop, no matter your location on the island.

Just like other major The Elder Scrolls Online content updates, Seasons of the Worm Cult will expand upon the game’s lore. Players will learn more about the island of Solstice, which was first inhabited by two tribes of ancient Argonians, including the Tideborn. At some point in the distant past, a group of Altmer called the Corelanya Elves was causing chaos in Tamriel, and they were eventually exiled.

They themselves on Solstice, where they continued to wreak havoc, which eventually led to an all-out battle between the Argonians and Elves. After players arrive on Solstice, they’ll find the Argonians and Elves in a fragile state, but pieces of their past conflict can still be seen.

For example, the city of Sunport has a base of Argonian architecture and ruins, with Altmer architecture built on top. This highlights the victory that the Corelanya Elves achieved in conquering the city back then.

The new storyline will see the return of various familiar characters from the base game. For longtime players, players ’conversations with these characters will reference their history and relationships they’ve developed over time, but new players can dive straight into Seasons of the Worm Cult since the storyline has been designed so that events will still make sense to even newcomers.

The same applies to new or returning players who may not yet get to experience the Seasons of the Worm Cult content until some time later. Even if the Writhing Wall has already been destroyed by then, the storyline has been made to take this possibility into account.

Update 46 will also introduce a free subclassing feature for every player. It feature will allow players to mix and match skills from different classes to create their desired build. To access subclassing, players have to first reach Level 50 with at least one of their characters in their account to unlock an account-wide achievement, which also makes it available to their other characters and even new characters they might create in the future.

Players will also need to complete an introductory quest called “A Study in Discipline,” either through the Quest Starters tab of the in-game store, by interacting with the subclassing portion of the game’s UI, or by talking to an NPC in one of the three alliance zones.

Update 46 is shaping up to be a big season for ESO fans worldwide. The latest story looks to heighten tensions between everyone, the new location means a whole new adventure for both longtime players and newcomers, and the new subclassing feature offers new ways for players to customise their characters. A whole new adventure awaits in The Elder Scrolls Online: Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 1.
