Crime Boss: Rockay City Dragon’s Gold Cup DLC (Xbox Series X) – Review

Players will once again take the role of Travis Baker (Michael Madsen) as he sets his eyes on the next big score, but he’s going to need some help along the way.

Teaming up with rival gang member, Dollar Dragon (Danny Trejo), this is the first story expansion to the core game, featuring an exciting heist to wrap off the content as you and the team break into a heavily defended depot to steal the gold and live like kings.  Crime Boss: Rockay City Dragon’s Gold Cup is available now, but it will require the base game to play, and you can read that review here.

New story missions lead up to the final heist, where Travis and Dollar will meet and work out the terms of their newly found partnership, and while you may not need to complete some of the smaller missions during the preparation stages, it is always good to get as much cash as you can to make things easier, such as hiring soldiers to bring along for the ride.

They’ll also help by providing details, such as weaknesses in security systems, or they’ll help by allowing you to prepare additional hardware, such as trucks to aid in your gold-laden escape.

The DLC also comes with a new Crime Time Contract, which is like quick play, where the actions you make won’t carry over to the main story progress. This can be played online with friends and random players, and it’s a quick way to earn some extra cash.

It also comes with two brand new Urban Legend missions that can either be played solo or with other players, and they’re special stories that take place either before certain events or running alongside the campaign storyline. If you’ve already completed the main story, these will allow you to replay some of your favourite missions, but with a few extra steps to complete, offering some more variety to what already exists.

Crime Boss: Rockay City Dragon’s Gold Cup was a fun experience. The missions were different and engaging while still offering a new challenge. It was great that Danny Trejo got more voice lines in this content, and it really made the cutscenes more enjoyable hearing Madsen and Trejo going back and forth.

While the core game is still an OK experience, and the DLC adds a bit of extra life, it hasn’t reduced the weight caused by the lack of features and repetitive nature of the base game.

The Good

  • New story missions
  • More great voice acting from Trejo and Madsen
  • Great concept for the final heist

The Bad

  • Rather short experience
  • Still carries the negatives of the main game
