Wield magical dice and build a team of powerful Chimeras to stop a mysterious evil in this tactical roguelike adventure. As a Chimera Summoner, recruit and create your perfect team of mythical beasts and command them to victory using unique dice mechanics.

Created by LEAP Game Studios and Tiny Ghoul and published by Good Sheperd Entertainment Dicefolk is available on the Nintendo Switch as of June 20th.

At the beginning of the game, you are welcomed by a quick cutscene, learning some lore. You are then dropped into a mock battle to help you understand the turn-based, deck-like game mechanics.

With an in-depth tutorial, you will have a party of three with different stats and attack power to plan out future actions. Once you are on your feet, you slowly travel a map similar to some ‘Mario’ games, going from location to location to arrive at the boss fight at the end.

Battles and locations help you gain some new Chimera items and equipment. With over 90 Chimeras to unlock and play as, and tons of items and equipment to help you, your fight to free the land from Salem’s control becomes easier.

Keep in mind that Dicefolk is a roguelike game so upon death your progress does reset but will earn points to unlocking other chimeras, with these lending more powerful and game-changing abilities you will not be able to find everything in the first run, so there is replayability to unlock everything that Dicefolk has to offer.

The controls for Dicefolk feel very natural on the Nintendo Switch and plays like a dream in handheld and docked settings, it is a game that would be perfect to play on public transport trips or with short fights that can be finished with ease when you have a solid team built up.

The visuals in Dicefolk are a great asset to the game as the Chimera and world are all hand drawn, so the care and attention to each unique Chimera and world setting is there, I love the look of each Chimera type you will encounter.

The cutscenes in Dicefolk are also done very well and take me back to the time of sitting on the floor and watching cartoons on weekend mornings.

The music in Dicefolk is also unique. Let me put it into these words; it makes you feel like you’re going on an adventure with up-and-down tones, subtle piano notes, and drums in the background, creating an atmosphere that puts you in the mood for victory. The beginning intro has beautiful soundwork and voice acting that gets you amped up and ready to take on this creative world.

In conclusion, Dicefolk is a fantastic game with unique assets hand-drawn elements and a world to behold, it is now available on the Nintendo Switch which makes it the perfect game to play on the go, while the difficulty does increase as you play, the overall game delivers amazing replayability.
