Greetings, fellow survivors of Appalachia, it is time once more to gear up and steel your resolve as the new Fallout 76: Infestations content launch is imminent. This highly anticipated update promises to introduce exciting new gameplay and challenges that will impact every player’s experience.

MKAU Gaming recently attended a digital developer preview, hosted by Production Director Bill LaCoste, Lead Designer Carl McKevitt, and Senior Systems Designer Fahad Khan, where we got to see a little of what players can expect when the Infestations update launches on June 2nd 2026.

Fallout 76: Infestations is best described as a dynamic, endgame, repeatable challenge/quest that will see players constantly exploring Appalachia in the hopes of discovering an Infestation that can be found in a whopping 40 unique locations across the refreshed map. Once discovered, joining an Infestation event is easy, but making it out in one piece will certainly prove quite challenging.

Not only are the enemies tough and the bosses even tougher, but you’ll also never know which of the 7 factions has decided to move in and infest the area. The fact that I don’t know which faction I could be facing off against, I find to be truly exciting, because rather than a fixed boss like a Raid activity, these events are set to make the world feel even more alive. There is just something about not knowing where or when these events may occur that truly gets the blood pumping.

Upon joining an Infestation event, players will infiltrate their way through a variety of toughened mobs while seeking out and destroying the infestation boss. While the objective may be simple enough, if the footage I saw is anything to go by, your survival skills will surely be tested. Not only are these bosses tough and can dish out a whole world of hurt, but they also appear to be quite intelligent as well, utilising cover and deploying tactics that are sure to make them challenging to flush out and beat.

Should players manage to defeat this high-risk activity, then congratulations, you’ve also earned yourself a shot at a new variety of 4 Star Mods, including Hauler’s, Raging, Satiated, Tarnished, and Vector.

In addition to the Infestations moving into Appalachia, it was also revealed that there will be several new seasonal fish for you to go out and catch, and a new Deathclaw CAMP pet, which can be purchased from the Atom Shop. Finally, rounding out all of the new and exciting features that are coming to Fallout 76, we were also informed that native PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions are also set to release soon.

While no exact release date has been confirmed, the good news is that these versions will roll out in Public Test Server (PTS) Flight builds, enabling PS5 and Xbox Series players to provide valuable feedback to the development team.

While I admit it has been a long time since I last explored Appalachia, I’m a giant sucker for the chaos and thrill I get from beating something that is insanely challenging, so I’m very much looking forward to diving back into Fallout 76 and experiencing everything that the Infestations update has to throw at me. Who knows, maybe you’ll be my saviour when Fallout 76: Infestations drops June 2nd 2026.
