Beautiful Desolation (Nintendo Switch) – Review

Published and developed by indie studio, The Brotherhood, ‘Beautiful Desolation’ is a top-down, isometric adventure game originally released in 2020 on various consoles, and now available on Nintendo Switch.

For a more in-depth look at the game, make sure to read our earlier review of the PC version over at: https://www.mkaugaming.com/all-review-list/beautiful-desolation-review/

The original 2020 release of ‘Beautiful Desolation’ was very well received by both critics and gamers for its highly detailed and gritty art style and the nostalgic feeling of playing a 90’s style PC game.

The Nintendo Switch version doesn’t add anything new to the game, which is not a bad thing as this is a perfect port of the original title. The only downside with being the exact same game is that the few faults it had previously also come along with it.

The biggest issue was that the game didn’t have a quest marker or list of current tasks, which can cause players to get lost during the game. Having this fixed for the Nintendo Switch version would’ve been nice however, it’s not a huge issue and can be easily forgiven with everything else the game has to offer.

The presentation of the overall game feels like something you’d experience in a game from the late 90’s to early 2000’s, but made in the modern-day. The pre-rendered and highly detailed graphics along with the isometric view really gives a very nice nostalgic feel. It’ll feel like a throwback to the very early ‘Fallout’ games. The Switch port of ‘Beautiful Desolation’ looks just as good in docked mode as it does in handheld.

Everything that made the indie game ‘Beautiful Desolation’ great on the other consoles in 2020, is all intact and can now be enjoyed at home or on the go with the Nintendo Switch.
